Idea - Direct tune

Perhaps this has been asked or thought of before (I have searched but have found it) forgive me if it has been asked and answered previously.

Would it be possible to allow channels to tune with a remote that uses numbers of the channels?

Pluto channel 10500 punch in 10500 and it tunes direct vs scrolling. Little less favorable but possible work around have the app have a direct tune option that allows number input?

Just wondering

I do this all the time with my onn pro box. you just need a remote that supports numbers like the sofabaton u2 or a flirc

Wait what? I just get a remote with numbers? No way it’s that simple?

This says appletv compatible …could it be just that easy?

If this works, the older generation (yes we boomers like our buttons) thanks you!

FYI, I have no experience with apple tv and do not know if it will work with that box. It does work on the onn pro android tv box. I also recommend getting rechargeable batteries as the u2 eats through batteries fast

The older Harmony line of universal remotes still work as well, the 650 I've got in a drawer still controls my AppleTV and manual channel entry works fine. As well as the customizable shortcut buttons on the color LCD, for favorites.

This older thread sheds some more light on how it all works:

Can confirm. I have a Sofabaton and Apple TV. You can enter channel numbers direct from the remote in the Channels Apps, when watching a live TV channel. Useful to me as I have all the DirecTV Channels memorized. Agree the remote likes to eat batteries, but overall a good solution.

I'm use Nvidia Shields paired with FLIRCs and all my IR remotes have number keys. They all work for direct tuning.
