Importing local content movie as one entry when in two MKV files

I have dozens of movie local content which are MKV captures of my DVDs. Importing as local content has worked quite well.

What I'm left with is a few movies that were originally split across two DVDs, i.e., Part I and Part II. My preference is to represent these in the library as a single entry, and either be able to play as one continuous movie or play the first part and have some UI element to play the next part next. I'd prefer not to represent them as two different movies in the library. What would you suggest?

I'm open to combining the two MKV files if such can be done without loss of quality.

Channels does not support file stacking in the manner you describe. (Kodi does, but I don't think Plex does.)

This can definitely be done.

(There are also some GUI tools to accomplish this, but I have never used them personally, so I don't know which they are.)

Merging them is definitely the best bet.

Avidemux is a really good, easy and free method to do it. I don't think that it remuxes anything, but I could be wrong about that.

I have appended MKV files hundreds of times using this tool:
https://mkvtoolnix.download/

Not only can you multiplex MKV files, but you can also edit the headers, and add/edit chapters.

It will quickly become your best friend. :grinning:

Thanks for the responses. I did concatenate the multi-part content successfully using mkvtoolnix.

For the benefit of others who may stumble across this thread in the future, I'll describe what I did (possibly specific to the Windows implementation):

You might find references to MKVMerge. Ignore that. All the tools in a UI are in MKVToolNix, which can be downloaded from MKVToolNix Downloads – Matroska tools for Linux/Unix and Windows. Nothing else is needed. Once installed,

  • Open MKVToolNix
  • Right-click within Input tab Source files window and select Add files from the context menu.
  • Open only the first file in the series that you wish to concatenate.
  • In the Input tab Source files window, select first file so it is highlighted, right click and select Append files. Open the file to be appended.
  • Set the Destination file name at the bottom.
  • Click Start multiplexing at the bottom center. Observe progress in the bottom right corner.
  • Close and check output file.
