Incorrect Guide Data for CHSN Chicago

The new local RCN here in Chicago, CHSN, has a local show called "The Big Pro Football Show". It airs 5 days a week at 5:00pm or 5:30pm all year and reruns 4 or 5 times every day. I'm trying to record new episodes. 75% of the time, the guide data lists the original air date as October 1, 2024 even though it is a brand new show at 5:30pm. I only get 1 or 2 episodes per week are recorded if I'm lucky. Even if I set it to record all episodes, it still only records new episodes because they all have the same air date of Oct 1, 2024. The only way I can get it to record is to select re-record deleted episodes and delete episode every day.

Obviously, this is a guide data issue and not really a DVR issue. Is there any way to get this fixed at the source?

If it's Live at 5:00pm or 5:30pm, then change your pass to include Live only at 5pm
Tags == Live
Time CONTAINS 5pm
That will record only those episodes tagged as Live airing anywhere from 5:00PM - 5:59PM.

If that doesn't work, then the guide data doesn't provide a unique identifier for each new episode, so Channels DVR thinks they're all the same episode and won't record them more than once.

You would have to complain to CHSN which provides the guide data to Gracenote, which provides the guide data to Channels DVR.

It's probably not CHSN's fault, Gracenote is just impenetrable sometimes. That's why there are inconsistencies in how it displays the data, sometimes its correct and sometimes it isn't. I've seen it firsthand from the other side.

Meaning what, that you worked for a TV Station/Network/Gracenote?

I think the issue is Gracenote doesn't have episode info for the show, so the tms ProgramId is SH05299020... instead of EP05299020...

It's relatively easy to find the gracenote station id for the network and make a custom m3u channel to get the guide data. Of course you can't actually watch the video feed if you don't subscribe or are out of the area, so just set the play url to something you already have. I do this to get guide data for call signs I don't have access to, like this one, just to see the guide data.

Yeah, TV station ops. We always give Gracenote properly formatted EPG data but it's hit or miss if it works or not. Sports are always fine but it has issues with our original programming.

I always picture hamsters running in a wheel powering Gracenote. :rofl:
Seems they're overwhelmed and have priorities we're not aware of.
