Installing to Linux with a network Drive

So I have installed the DVR to a Linux Virtualbox. I have never used Linux before and limited space on my OS HDD, I am having trouble trying to get the DVR to record on my network attached HDD.

My set up:
Main PC OS: Windows 10
Virtual box OS: Ubuntu or Mint
Router: Netgear 1900 AC with two HDD’s attached.

  • Is it possible to save the DVR recordings to my Netgear attached HDD’s?
  • Do I need to attached a USB External to make this work instead?

Has anyone set this up in a similar fashion, and could you help explain how you did it?

Thank you for all the help!

Writing to a network drive might work, but is not recommended. The streams from the HDHomeRun are quite big and already consume a lot of bandwidth on your home network. They also need to be written to disk quickly, so a USB external drive is preferred for maximum performance.

Tested it on a USB drive. Loaded up and works no problem. Thanks for the tip! Pretty amazing what you guys have accomplished!
