Hi, just got an HDHR, but don’t have a 4th gen ATV. So, wondering–for users of the iOS app-- are you content? Or do you wish you had bought the tvOS version?
Both iOS and tvOS versions are awesome. Significantly better than any other apps I have tested & used with HDHR tuners.
My iPhone and my apple TVs are on separate accounts, so I had to buy both anyway. Channels is my primary TV. iOS is great for adding iPad capability to untether me from the big screen, that’s what I use iOS todo.
I bought both and returned all my cable boxes. It’s saved me a lot.
I purchased both of them as well. So far, we only have one Apple TV4 in the house so we use the iPads and iPhones as additional viewing stations. This comes in handy when were home or away at an event with time to burn.
Like many of the others who have replied, I have both. For me the iOS and tvOS apps have different use cases. My family primarily uses the ATV4. We have a 4th gen ATV on all of our main televisions and they are the primary input to watch live or recorded Channels content or various streaming options. This works great for family time when multiple people want to enjoy a show or sports event together. MY wife and daughter are watching a recorded Americas got Talent episode as I type this. The iOS version is great for single user case. I can take my ipad to the workbench and have a hockey game on while I work.
In my case both uses have enough value to justify the hardware and software cost. I dropped satelite television July 2016 and am just about to break even on hardware, Channels and streaming costs vs sat costs. During the year my family hasn’t felt like they were missing anything. Gog for it.
With the fairly recent announcements of adding Vudu and Amazon Prime playback to the ATV4, the ATV4 will definitely become the premier playback device.
Most, if not all respondents in this thread, utilize both the iOS and ATV4 capabilities (for different use cases) and also use Channels DVR for the superior integration with both apps.
IMO, no other available apps come close to full integration or even viewing experience, no matter if one uses Channels DVR, or only the iOS or tvOS apps.
Of course, the choice is dependent upon the users preference. Initially, I used both iOS and tvOS without DVR capabilities and was extremely satisfied.
Once, the DVR implementation was added to both iOS and tvOS, my experience has been exponentially improved to a total solution par none.
