Ipad storage

Is there anyway to limit the Cache size on the IOS version of the client? I have an iPad with limited storage and have to clear the cache after watching any show. I thought I read in a support post a few years ago that it would delete the cache when returning Home, but it doesn't. Also wondered if there was a setting somewhere to limite the cache size, and start overwriting it?

Thank you

Have you tried setting Original Quality Delivery to Stream?

Protip: Use Stream while at home to place the buffer on the server if your streaming device’s storage is preventing you from pausing for a long enough time.

Hi, thanks for the replies. This is not a problem of needing more time to pause, it is a problem of the cache filling up on the Ipad regardless of whether I pause the show or not, or regardless of the playback mode. The Ipad only has 4-6G of space free at any given time, and the channels app cache takes all this storage after 2 or 3 days of just watching a show in the morning.

From this link - Channels Support - Streaming, The statement: "The server stores the entire Live TV buffer and the client will store as much of it as it can handle with the available disk space."

It would be nice either for the app to auto-delete the cache if started up from a closed state, or a way to limit the cache and have it auto-delete.

To be honest, my spouse is having a hard time remembering where the option is to clear the cache, and I just wish there was an easier way.

Thanks

I don't know what's kept in the app cache.
Sounds like the developers would need you to submit diagnostics from the app.
What happens if you don't clear the cache?

App won't start and get an IOS error that storage is full.

I agree! I just cleared the video cache the other day on my iPhone that had grown to over 100gb. Since I’m a watch and delete user I don’t even have 100gb of shows and movies on my server library. Obviously their clean up logic needs improvement.

I remembered seeing a couple posts and just found them. These may shed some light on the issue.

The image cache is certainly not the issue. The 2nd post sounds related, but I still contend there could be a configured limit, and then auto clear based on that limit. Or just auto clear when starting the app from fully closed state (swipe up in ios).

There has to be something built into the code because devices like Google TV and apple TV don't have unlimited storage for cache.

One thing not mentioned is how old is the iPad? Is iPadOS an older version?

You need to give actual details. Did you send logs and asked support?

I will do all this. I don't know that there is necessarily something wrong, as it might be by design. Was just looking to see if there is a better way to manage the cache on IOS devices.

Just say your iPados version here so the normal people stop suggesting things that aren’t working for you.

For some reason I have a feeling you’re using an old, unsupported iPad but I might be wrong.

I believe there is a note somewhere here or in the site where channels requires a minimum version of the OS’s.

I have zero issues on an up to date M1 iPad.

Version 6.3.0 (August 13th, 2025)

|new|iOS 17.0 is now the minimum required version|

HW is 6th gen, and iOS is 17.7.10. Channels is working fine, the issue is that this iPad only has 32 gig of storage. Every other day the app doesn't start because the cache has to be cleared.

I am just suggesting some sort of figured limit or auto clear algorithm.
