IPTV Stream Handling - Client/Server

Hello,

I am trying to understand how IPTV streams are handled. Can someone confirm what scenario occurs when I watch an IPTV stream from an m3u file loaded into the server ?

1. Server connects to IPTV url to capture media. Media is then sent to client AppleTV

2. Server passes IPTV url to client. Client connects to IPTV url directly

Is this behavior the same if I am remote streaming from another location outside my LAN?

It is the first. The server acts as the delegate for all non-HDHomeRun streams.
