Is SSD/HD necessary if using Raspberry Pi for TVE?

Hi, I am planning on purchasing a raspberry pi and sd card to utilize TV Everywhere, but is a hard drive/ssd necessary if I don’t plan on using dvr functions? In other words, I just want to use TVE on my Apple TV via the channels app but I don’t plan on recording anything. Do I still need to buy a hard drive in my case for this to work?

sd cards are slow and can wear out fast. It is not "necessary" to have a usb ssd/hdd but highly recommended. They are cheap, only slightly more than a fast sd card.

With the low availability and high prices for a pi currently I would recommend picking up a Beelink instead. Currently these are much more powerful for about the same money. Install Ubuntu on it for a rock solid server or keep windows on it if you’re not willing to dabble with Linux.
