I noticed the recent addition of custom channels which seems to indicate that any stream can be added as a custom channel and recorded. Is it possible to do this for Amazon Prime and Disney+ with the ability to record specific shows and movies?
The Custom Channels feature lets you take a M3U live stream source like SAT>IP or a security camera and feed it into Channels DVR.
Disney+ and Amazon Prime are not live channels, nor do they offer M3U access.
You can however integrate links to those apps via our Stream Links feature: https://getchannels.com/docs/channels-dvr-server/how-to/stream-links/
Got it, thanks. That would just open a link to the Disney+ and Amazon Prime apps though right? I couldn't record from Disney+ like I can with PlayOn?
No, you’ll need to use PlayOn to do that.
Got it, thanks. Is that something that would be worth a feature request, or no way to implement that type of functionality?
We have no plans to implement that kind of feature ourselves.
Ok, got it. Thanks.
I created a stream link for Disney+ by creating folder /Channels/Imports/TV/DisneyPlus. In that folder I created 0x00.strmlnk with the following text in the file.
The artwork that Channels displays is generic and when I select it, it basically launches the Disney+ site / app depending if I'm on my computer or TV. I've done the same for Hulu and my favorite TV series like NCIS and The Big Bang Theory.
Also, obviously stream links depend upon you having active subscriptions, are signed into the services you are linking to on the device you are using.
Only works on computer. Does not open app on iphone or apple TV.
I haven't tried iPhone, but Stream Links work just fine on my AppleTV.
Sorry, I was reffering to the https://www.disneyplus.com/home suggestion. stmlnks for individual TV episodes works fine (mostly). I do have a request up for a HULU strmlnk that is not working.
