Is there any way to record all the NCAA and NIT tournament games with ChannelsDVR?

I'm used to being able to record all the games of the NCAA's March Madness and the NIT tournament (Men's and Women's) back when I was using WMC and our TiVos, but I'm getting worried. I have tried to create a pass that would record all the first round games of the NIT tomorrow and Wednesday and only one game shows up in the schedule, titled, "2023 NIT Basketball Tournament; First Round: Teams TBA" at 4 pm (Pacific) on ESPN2HD. When I go to the guide, every first round game says "2023 NIT Basketball Tournament; First Round Teams TBA" and shows that it is "Queued" with no option to record it separately. There is only one entry with this title in all of my scheduled recordings.

Please tell me there is a way to handle this so I don't have to resurrect my use of Windows Media Center for this year's basketball tournaments.

You can make an advanced DVR pass with the specific tournament name as an event title filter

I already have two advanced passes as shown below, one for Men's and one for Women's, although I need to edit the Channel numbers slightly for the national tournaments.:

All of the entries that say 2023 NIT Basketball Tournament; First Round Teams TBA" show up in the matches and they all say "Queued", but only the first one is in the DVR Schedule.

(edited to show updated Advanced Pass)

Will this not work? If I select one game from the guide, and create a new series pass, I see these?

I'm not having a problem creating a pass. I'm having trouble setting one up that records all the games in the NCAA and NIT Tournaments and not everything else. I paused the ones I had for the conference tournaments (which worked great!), and created a new one named "2023 Basketball Tournament" adding the channels for ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, CBS, TNT, TruTV, and TBS, and virtually everything on those channels, regardless of title, became scheduled to record. 8 things are recording as I type this, none of which were intended by this pass (until I added "Tournament" as a Title contain).
Still trying to find the magic sauce, and even if I do I don't know how I'm going to get it to record all 13 games in the guide for the first round of the NIT scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

I've updated the pass and it shows matches for all the Men's and Women's tournament games in the guide. I'm just worried that it won't record two instances with the same description that are actually different games.

Is there any way to force a recording of multiple instances of a description that are known to be distinctly different events? It's been a day since the game details have been announced and I see that both games of the First Four tomorrow night are each scheduled to record, but there are 7 NIT first round games airing on the ESPN family of channels tomorrow and only one is scheduled to record. How can I address this if the guide data doesn't get any more detailed than that?

It doesn't care about descriptions. It cares about ProgramIDs, which they will all be different if they're different events.

If you type NCAA into the search box then click the 2023 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament logo, it opens to a generic College Basketball page with 91 matches. If you create a season pass for New Episodes, it should record all the NIT and NCAA games. I set one up to check the schedule, and everything looks correct to me:

Oh and (to answer your question from another thread), if you want to scrub through them a little faster, go into Show Options, after the pass begins, and you can change the playback speed.

I think you could make a separate pass for each tournament that would probably work.

I see how that does not filter the games to what the title shows, but all games. I thought that maybe because the title included that name, that maybe the series ID would filter them.

I don't follow what you mean about not caring about descriptions. When I go to my TiVo and click on the first NIT game tomorrow at 4pm PST on ESPN2 and then click on "Upcoming Airings", I get a list of the coming "Episodes":

Toledo at Michigan, ESPN2 4pm
Hofstra at Rutgers, ESPNU, 4pm
Villanova at Liberty, ESPN2, 6pm
Yale at Vanderbilt, ESPNU, 6pm
Bradley at Wisconsin ESPN, 6pm
Seton Hall at Colorado, ESPNU, 8pm
Eastern Washington at Washington State, ESPNU, 8pm

and then there are some repeats as a number of these games are broadcast another time.

These are clearly all different "events", but Channels just sees "First Round Teams TBA" and only the first one is scheduled to be recorded. This is why I would wish to be able to force a record even if I have to later fill in the teams involved after viewing it.

All of the above times and channels show up in my Pass, but I don't know how to record any but the first. Isn't there some way that sporting events like this won't be held hostage by requiring the guide to have a unique "ProgramID"?

Because Channels doesn’t use title or description to determine uniqueness. It uses an internal metadata ID provided by Gracenote, our guide data provider. All of those events will have their own unique ID. If they are replayed, they will not be recorded.

If you want to get those events updated to the teams playing in them, try to manually update your guide data from your Channels DVR Server web admin Settings section.

Maybe you need to update your guide info because mine shows all the teams in the First Round matchups. The guide will replace the Second Round: Teams TBA with the winners probably the day after the games, but even if it doesn't update for some reason the pass will still record all the games regardless of knowing who's actually playing.

If you want to record reruns just run another search and manually select the game.

Where are you seeing that only 1 will record? If I make a pass from searching ncaa tournament it grabs both the NIT games as well as the big tournament. It finds 55 games to record with the teams playing

From the pass

From the calendar view

Those are nothing more than possible recordings. It will not record duplicates.

I was getting separate recordings for all the NCAA tournament games already. Within the last half hour, the NIT games received updates in the guide to show teams and location and now each shows up as an individual recording. Whew!

On my Settings page, I had done a "Redownload Guide Data" for the Cable and TVE sources about an hour ago, so I wonder if that's what triggered the update.

Since it seems updated guide information is going to be pretty important to distinguish such events, how often does it update if left alone?

Every morning between 8-10am

Thanks! It makes sense that the details of each game may not have been put up on Gracenote by that time this morning. I'll remember to make sure to do a manual reload before getting so concerned next time.

Reloading the Guide data each morning seemed to do the trick. Since Thursday, all but one game was recorded from both the Men's and Woman's college basketball tournaments (NIT and NCAA). Since Tuesday over 120 games have been recorded so far. There were several times when I saw up to 9 HD recordings being made at once.

The one game that didn't record was because I had mistakenly restricted it to record from the local CBS channel over cable instead of permitting it to record OTA as well. The good thing was that I had also set it to record on a TiVo. The bad thing is that I've tried every means known to me to download it off of the TiVo and nothing can play the resulting file.
