I will have to temporarily use my MacBook Air for Channels. Is this powerful enough to use? In addition, I will be doing some simple email, web surfing, and watching YouTube videos on my laptop in addition to Channels server..
Not an official response, but by way of comparison, I'd say that's plenty horsepower. Until recently, I was hosting ChannelsDVR from a 2012 Mac Mini i5, and it worked just fine.
Connect it to your router with gigabit Ethernet if you can for best performance, and if you're using an external HDD for storage, make sure it's USB3 or better.

One more thing... Change to power settings so that the laptop does not go to sleep. If it goes to sleep, it will miss scheduled recordings.
