Is Xfinity stream the same as tv everywhere ? login failure

I can login to Xfinity stream from a browser (Mac and windows) so I know my credentials are correct. when I try to add tv everywhere as a source I get the following: authn http status 401 Unauthorized: Data not found. my dvr is running on ubuntu under VMware. also when I tried to login from chome on the same machine I get "your system isn't compatible with Xfinity stream".

Try to login to an individual channel website that's what Channels uses. It doesn't use the Xfinity website

as a test I was able to login to the USA network with my credentials.

here's the channels dvr log when I try to add TVeverywhere as a source. why is it trying to authenticate through adobe ???

Surprise, Adobe is a services company now! They provide a lot of the authentication infrastructure used by most TVEverywhere channels. https://www.adobe.com/marketing/primetime/subscription-revenue.html

The error you get for Xfinity Stream is because Xfinity Stream requires Adobe Flash, which is likely not available on that platform. Do you get the same error when you log into a TVEverywhere channel, like https://www.tbs.com/watchtbs, on the same VMWare virtual machine?

The VM had a really old version of Chromium installed which was causing problems. Once that was upgraded everything started working as expected.
