This happens frequently, channels freeze up and when I back out I get this. If I go to the guide and restart program it works.... at least for awhile

Is Channels DVR (The program) freezing up -or- Is the stream freezing up (buffering or frozen). If program is freezing up. Please submit diagnostic report and let mods know. If stream is buffering. Thats the source. They (devs) can't fix that.
As far as the Error. It means if you leave guide you loose your buffer.
Behind timeline.. if the show is currently live at 4:10. But you in the current time of the show at 4:05. You are behind the timeline.
That's how it is supposed to work.

When watching a show and I exit to guide. Dish TV would make the guide 75% of screen real-estate. And a small picture of of the show in 25% of screen. You didn't loose buffer unless you actually changed channel.
I don't expect this to be a NOW thing. But could it be on long term road map, hopes and dreams?
Same thing happens to me. I think it has something to do with a glitch on a broadcast or an error in a stream.
The other day I was watching a live stream from FBN (6074) and the video froze. I did an up arrow and it showed that current position was pointing at the beginning of the video buffer and before the error I was not behind. Sometimes I can get it moving again by skipping forward and back, but backing out the guide and restarting the channel is required sometimes.
A while back I submitted a diagnostic and it was determined that I was getting some kind of WIFI error. Since then I changed over to using a gigabit ethernet. It does not happen as often but it still happens.
For broadcast channels it happens on channels that occasionally get interference. Some of the channels I watch are 70 miles away. Most of time they are okay, but when I do get errors it sometimes freezes and I have to back out to the guide and restart the channel to get it going again.
I am using a Tivo Stream 4K.
depending on your device, you can do PIP. TS4K - yes, CCwGTV, no - for example. With TS4K, show will be small window lower right continuing to play while you can navigate guide.
