Kodi Add-on

Mainly because I can run literally everything else (including the few games I play) in HDR + Atmos on the Xbox and switching devices is annoying, and completely unnecessary for all my other use cases (including the HDHR native app, and Plex) - I'd just prefer to use Channels which is why I posted here before I just axed it entirely. I have a Shield TV Pro, that runs the Channels app on fine, but it's the only thing left that I use on there and I don't want to have to switch just to watch my antenna TV.

Unfortunately, if I have to choose between switching inputs and subbing in Plex or HDHR native for Channels, I'm just going to not use Channels - it's better than both of those, but not better-enough to. be worth the annoyance of switching inputs.

Also, Kodi runs fine on Xbox, but some Kodi plug-ins don't work over there (like the Channels one) for various development reasons. I actually prefer to not use Kodi plug-ins when there are native apps available because the native apps always work better. I will use a Kodi plug-in when it works and there isn't a native option (like BBC iPlayer when you live in the USA).

I just remembered that it's not possible to use pvr plugins on Xbox because it doesn't allow code exectution. Non-pvr plugins are written in python and work, but binary plugins have to be bundled for code signatures.

Is there any way to get the TV Shows section rather than Recording in Kodi? I currently import my PlayOn recordings into Channels, and they integrate into Library>TV Shows seamlessly. I'd love to have that same view in Kodi as part of the PVR plug-in.

I use Jellyfin as a backend for Kodi and I can (and have) just used a "Recording" library to combine them and it works well. Except that I can't watch in-progress recordings, and don't see new items until Kodi and Jellyfin sync.

So for now, I bounce between Channels and Kodi.

And I don't know if this is a limitation of Kodi or Channels, but the views available for the PVR recordings are limited. But for most media (Movies, etc) there are a multitude of views available depending on the skin.

The views are part of Kodi. We just feed the channels data into them.

I kinda figured that would be the case.

As far as the imported PlayOn files, I assume that you don't feed that in? Just recordings?

Sadly, no local videos from Channels show up in the Kodi Channels add-on.
I use a Plex server and KodiPlexConnect to get all my stuff into Kodi, along with the Channels Kodi add-on. I use Kodi on my PC, and the Channels App on my Apple TV device.

The Kodi Add-on has not been working for me after I changed my router. Channels is working when I access it from my browser but not in Kodi and it seems like the iPhone app isn't working for me either, but I use Kodi more. I can see in the logs that it discovers the Channels server and the IP address is correct but then it logs this error, AddOnLog: pvr.channelsdvr: Refresh error: invalid character '<' looking for beginning of value. Here is the full kodi log https://paste.coreelec.org/PicturedAntonia

Any help is much appreciated, thanks

Which device? If it's a Windows PC check firewall, and allow Kodi.

It's a Linix PC running Ubuntu, I tried disabling the firewall completely and restarting Kodi but same error. If I ssh into my kodi device I'm able to ping the Channels server and port, that should mean it's not getting blocked by a firewall, right?

You would think.

Nevermind all, I switched around my modem/vpn/router setup a bit and got it working :man_shrugging:

All the unresolved issues with the PVR on the latest build of Kodi (Omega) seems to be fixed. Channel groups (collections) were the biggest lingering issue, and it works now in Omega. I don't think it was ever fixed in Nexus so this is a pleasant surprise.
