Laptop Issues

I am currently using a Lenovo laptop with an external drive as my DVR. Is has been running fine for about 15 months, but lately the laptop has not rebooted cleanly after a couple of power outages. I will typically have to manually restart the laptop to get things running again.

So, I am think about replacing the laptop with something more "bulletproof" The laptop specs are:

Lenovo Thinkpad T430
Intel Core I5-3320M, 2.6GHz
8GB Ram
64 bit OS
USB 3.0
180G SSD
Windows 7

And the external drive is a WD 4TB Black My Passport Portable External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 at about 45% capacity.

First, what are the best options to replace the laptop that would it be plug and play with the external drive?

Second, what are the best options overall, even if that means replacing the external drive as well? How hard would it be to transfer everything over to a new DVR platform?

Thanks!

Your best bet is an all-in-one NAS like the Synology DS218+

It is quite straightforward to move your existing DVR content to a new installation.

Thanks...

I've been reading some other threads in between meetings

Do you have a recommendation for drive(s) to put into it? Any memory upgrades?
