Live playback lag on 11.3

So I updated my ATV4 to 11.3 public beta 1 a few days ago. I noticed that while watching live, the playback will get a little choppy sometimes. Every 20-30 seconds, it feels like I’m loosing a few frames. Or like the video freezes for 0.2 of a second and then comes back immediately. If I pause and rewind 10 seconds and play the laggy sequence again, the chop will not occur a the same moment. It really seems like it happens at a steady rate (around 20-30 seconds intervals). The only way to fix it is to reboot the ATV. Then it will be ok for a while and will eventually come back. Happens on every channels. Does not happen on other apps (Infuse, Netflix, Prime Video).

Any ideas?

tvOS betas are always really buggy. Just don’t use them.

Well that was my first time trying it… I wanted to have a go at Airplay 2. Now regrets a little bit. No simple ways of going back!

What kind of router are you using? Are you using wifi?

I’m using an AirPort Extreme but everything Channels related is hardwired. HDHR, Apple TV and PC running the DVR backend. I got a new unmanaged gigabit lan switch last week and it really improved the speed between all of these devices.

But I’m still getting the hanging / drop frame problem described in my first post.

Unfortunately I can’t install the latest 11.3 beta since I unsubscribed from the beta program hoping it would offer me to revert back to 11.2… But it didn’t. So I’m stuck on 11.3 beta 1 and it’s very buggy. And the beta program option is gone now.

Airplay 2 is a joke. Hopefully it’s gonna work by the next WWDC. I wish they won’t exclude their existing Airport Express support. I have 5 of these things!
