Turns out TiVo Stream 4K>Google Play Store is NOT enabled to allow apps to be auto updated. You have to check/do-it manually from time to time.
If you have this issue, go to Apps>Google Play Store, search for 'Channels', select the app and click "update". And your done!!!
By upgrading to rev 3.5.0 fixed the following issue:
- Recorded TV plays back perfectly (i5 w/1TB HDD)
- Live TV on TiVo Stream STUTTERS (HDHR Prime 3)
Details prior to updating:
- all 3 connected (RJ45) to same 5 port ethernet switch
- Test Speed: 100.41mbps, 1.78ms latency, 1.18ms jitter
- Tuner Sharing: Off (On is a bit worse)
- Video Decorder: Hardware
- Streaming Quality: Original
- TiVo Stream Client Rev: 3.4.x
Note:
- Only 1 Live TV stream at any time
- Server recording 1 episode at most
- Live TV channel being watched not the 1 recording
Other Streaming Media Devices (SMDs) we have:
- Live TV on Nvidia Shield Pro has NO stuttering (same switch)
- Live TV on Apple TV 4K has NO stuttering (on same router)
- Live TV on Chromecast w/Google TV has NO stuttering (on same router)
- Live TV on Fire TV 4K has NO stuttering (on same router)
*** turns out all these clients had updated automatically to 3.5.0 while the TiVo Stream clearly hadn't
FYI: working on moving from TiVo DVR to Channels
- prefer TiVo Stream as our SMD because spouse can continue to use the same TiVo remote she has used for decades (just have to pair it with the TiVo Stream)
BTW: I am the Silcon Valley Gadget Guru who was an early TiVo adopter and had several former TiVo folks work with me on a next-gen DVR at Motorola
Final Note: also trying out Plex (clients on Roku, TiVo DVR & my other SMDs). Also have Channels DVR server loaded on a PI 4 (1TB HDD) & a NVidia Shield Pro (1TB SSD) as well as the i5 (1TB HDD).
