Local Content Atmos quirk

I’ve got some local content that shows as Dolby Atmos in Channels but plays as DD+. If I force quit the app, same thing. I can tell from the Sonos app and the Sony display info.

The quirk, however, is if I start a certain movie also marked Atmos in Channels, which then plays as Atmos, suddenly the local content that refuses to play as Atmos will now play as Atmos. Disney plus/Netflix etc always seem to play Atmos content without this quirk.

It’s easy enough to do this to force it to kick in with the workflow but my family rolls their eyes at me.

I’ve got on experimental Audio fwiw (otherwise I never get Atmos).

Apple TV, latest model, Sony a80j and a Sonos Arc.

Any thoughts?

It’s probably because the track is TrueHD which is tagged as Atmos, but the Apple TV can’t pass through that kind, but a shield can.

The kind that worked was probably eac3 with atmos, which can be passed through.

You can check your file on your server by viewing details.

But the thing is it DOES work, eventually. That's the weird part. All of this is in Channels Local Media-

1). Play Raiders of the Lost Arc. Lists as Atmos. It will only play DD+.
2). Restart app, restart Apple TV, still only play DD+
3). Play Ghostbusters Afterlife and it plays in Atmos
4). Play Raiders of the Lost Arc again, it's now playing in Atmos.

Then at some point, over days, perhaps an update, I dunno, it resets and I have to follow that workflow. I've got a log with and a timeframe where this happened last night.

Edit: Wild - You're right, ROTLA is True HD, but is somehow being recognized as Atmos after I do this workflow according to the Sonos app and the Sony Display options.

So I’ve noticed the same issue. What happens is that once you play content in Atmos, it doesn’t switch back. It gets stuck in Atmos mode. This includes live tv and local content, so I presume it might be some kind of deinitialisation bug in the experimental audio driver.

The only thing that clears it is force closing the Channels app.

You are definitely right! I was futzing around:

1). I can never get Atmos to play unless I use the experimental Audio driver
2). Channels works fine and plays 'expected' audio (aka 5.1 on 5.1 sources, 2.0 on stereo sources, DD+ on DD+ or True HD sources) with the experimental audio driver on
3). It will recognize an Atmos source (eac3) and play it in Atmos with it on
4). It then plays EVERYTHING in atmos (or at least is broadcasting such that the Sonos app detects it as cut) til you do a force quit of the app.

I tried this on a shield and I can get the 5.1 track to work but when I select the TrueHD 7.1 track, I just get a source of 2 speakers showing on my receiver.

Do I need the beta version for this to work?
