Local Content dvr-ms

Does local content import support dvr-ms files? After playing with the virtual channels I decided to move a bunch of old files back into my active collection... Turns out a lot were dvr-ms files which the import skips. The files are not DRM Protected, I can play them in VLC. Is this format not supported? Thanks

While it's been over 13 years since I used dvr-ms files, if I remember correctly this is a proprietary format available on Windows XP forward. I would convert the files to something more compatible like mp4.

The base of the media player in Channels is mpv, which in turn uses the ffmpeg project's libraries as its basis. (The DVR also heavily relies upon ffmpeg.)

If you have access to either of those tools—or software based upon them—then they ought to work within Channels. Otherwise, you'll need to find a way to convert them into a format that Channels—and other software—will handle.

What happens when you try to play them in Channels? What are the filenames?

Sorry it took so long to reply. When I move the files into the local files directory, the import just skips them and doesn't import. I don't know how to force it to play one.

A couple file names are spider-man (2002).dvr-ms Spider-man 2 (2004).dvr-ms. I've got a bunch of old stuff that I converted to dvr-ms for WMC. I'm sure the folders are being processed because mp4 vob and avi files in the same folder structure did import. Just skipped the dvr-ms ones. I guess I just need to manually convert them somehow.

Appears Channels DVR doesn't import dvr-ms files.
I have a test file that I just rename for testing imports.
When named spider-man (2002).dvr-ms it doesn't import.
Renaming it to spider-man (2002).m2ts works.

Thanks a bunch! That works and is going to save me a bunch of time.

Before you go renaming all your files you might want to see if Channels DVR will actually play one first.
I don't have dvr-ms files, I was just renaming a .ts to .dvr-ms and .m2ts to see if it would import.

You may need to find a tool that will remux them to a supported container like .mpg, .ts, .mkv, etc.

I tested it before I replied. They played perfectly. Thanks again.
