Local Content?

I see it is possible to put local content into ChannelsDVR but want to know if it will make a mess of it in Emby. Anyone else done this without issue? Is is incorporated into recorded shows and movies? Do you get solide metadata?

No. Channels DVR doesn't do anything with the files themselves, it just creates a database on its side.

Yes. Not with Emby but with Plex. Same behavior.

Yes. However, you need to make sure you create the right links in your import folders in Channels.

For the most part, yes, as long as your files are named properly. I'm assuming that they must be fine if you're using Emby already.

It's not 100% accurate in all cases and you might have to fix incorrect matches here and there. But maybe not.

I have 70 Tb of movies and tv shows but I think I will give it a spin. I expect a long time to generate the db and it to be quite large. Any insight on this?

Just a heads up, while Channels DVR Server scans in your personal media pretty fast, it will index each video in way to optimize them for remote streaming.

If you don't care about this, and it will bother you that it will be "scanning" for quite some time, you can turn this off with the advanced setting.

But this does not slow down your import, it all happens in the background.

Settings > General > Library Database > Pre-Optimize Personal Media

Channels DVR Server maintains a library for all your content no matter the source. It doesn't distinguish between recorded or imported content except for a few places or where you want to (using Smart Rules).

All content in your Channels library participates in all of the features of Channels. Recording and Importing are just two ways to add content to your library.

So I tried my Movie Library. Emby has Theme Music for movies and now I have a million (not quite) movies called "Theme" which apparently came out in 1979.

How are the files and folders organized

They are organized like this or similar:

Z:\Movies\Movie Title (YEAR)
Movie Title (YEAR).mkv
Subtitles
Movie Title (YEAR).bif
Movie Title (YEAR).nfo
fanart.jpg
poster.jpg
theme.mp3
