LOCAST Issues

Audio sync is completely off on locast.org web player for several SF channels. Seems like the feeds are bad. You can contact their support to let them know and also tell them about the interlacing problems.

The "Stream not live" may be due to locast backend problems, or maybe they have some sort of stream limit and your account got locked when you were channel surfing.

Got it working. Had to update my install, donate to Locast, redownload/update guide and stop/start server and now all good.

Thanks!!

I finally got around to opening a ticket with LOCAST and they replied within 30 minutes that they RESET those channels and I should be good. Or might have to login again. Anyway, did not need to login and they are fixed.

Wondering whether others have observed this:

My channel sources now include OTA (via HDHomeRun Connect Duo devices), YouTube TV and I recently added Locast. My issue is related to the Locast lineup and that channels that I receive via OTA. It seems that when I added the Locast source. When I look at the Locast source in settings I can see all of the channels that I expect to see in the Locast lineup. When I look at the Channels Guide listing the Locast channels that I am also receiving in my OTA lineup are not a present. My sources are listed in the following order:

  1. YouTube TV
  2. HDHomeRun Duo
  3. HDHomeRun Duo
  4. Locast

For shits and giggles I adjusted the source priority as follows:

  1. YouTube TV
  2. Locast
  3. HDHomeRun Duo
  4. HDHomeRun Duo

After adjusting the source priority and I looked at the Channels Guide found all of the Locast channels listed in the settings/source lineup, but some of the OTA channels listed in the Settings source are excluded from the Channels Guide (i.e. channels that I via OTA and Locast).

This seems to only occur on the Apple TV app; When I look at the guide via the Channels DVR webpage on my dvr device I can see the see all channels in both the OTA and Locast sources. I have not seen this same behavior with the YouTube TV source and either OTA or Locast. Thoughts?

That is by design. And the order in the DVR is separate from the Apple TV in my case. The
Is may not be true of other clients. Because of this before LOCAST my HDHomerun OTA was last because I disabled all but 9 channels and there was no duplicates from other sources. Now with LOCAST I unplugged by HDHomerun OTA to completely remove it so there is no duplicates and I do not need to adjust all of my TV’s and DVR’s. My wife likes some of the other LOCAST channels so I do not disable any. We both now use a Favorites for the On Now section in our Apple TV’s and in the guide we use ALL with channel number order since LOCAST 5900 channels come first. We are pretty happy with this new setup. OH, we disabled 6000-6003 (I think) the NBC ABC FOX Channels that added before LOCAST was add since they are duplicates. Had to disable in every TVE Source.

Thanks for the reply. Interesting. If it is by design this feature doesn’t work with my YouTube TV Source. There are duplicate channels such as Dabl (in my OTA and YouTube TV lineups) which show up in my guide on the Apple TV app.

For the channels to "collapse" into a single guide entry, the name of the channel in the guide must be the same. Sometimes, the name of the channel from one source is different than the name in the other source, but they show the same guide information; when this happens they will not "collapse" into a single entry, and instead you'll have 2 different entries of the same guide, just with different channel numbers. That is most likely what is happening in your case.

As the other post states sometimes there is an issue like with your DABL. But is extremely easy to DISABLE the problem channel from either the HDHomeRun (OTA) "OR" from YouTube TV and then you are done.

In the early days of TVE my PS Vue Source (I think) would pick up channels that had a Pacific Feed and a Eastern. Sometime this worked well where you could watch two different shows from the different feeds. But other times you would get a error from the TVE Provider that indicates you are not in the right timezone. So, I simply disabled those problem channels (about 4) and all was good. Channels may be doing a better job in detecting this now but not positive.

Bottom line it is very easy to make this work if you spend about 30 minutes to review any problems and then you are done to enjoy going forward.

Thank you. I appreciate all of the advice and feedback.

Has support ended for the Locast NYC subchannels of WNYW? While I can continue to see Movies! Light TV, Decades, etc on the Locast App, they are no longer showing up as available on Channels via NYC Locast. Was there a NYC rescan or something that disabled these? Or are they no longer supported by Channels?

Is that channel still available when viewing channels on locast.org for your location?

Yes at Locast.org from my Tribecca location I can see 5.2, 5.3, etc. I should note that this problem popped up about two weeks ago. I went to Locast.org and if I remember correctly those channels were no longer on their site either. But they returned last week to Locast. But then didn't return to the Channels DVR, even after I deleted Locast as a source and then reloaded. Maybe it's just my situation? I would think others would have noticed. .

We'll have to push an update to fix this. We should have a chance to do this tomorrow.

The DVR update v2020.02.24.0725 has this update. Please tap-and-hold on Check for Updates to update.

Confirmed. It's fixed!

Thanks!

In Philadelphia location, 6.3 says Stream not available but plays fine through Locast app. Also 12.1 plays but no audio. Running current DVR version on Mac with current OSX version and accessing via current AppleTV Channels app.

When you say "Locast app" are you actually using an app? If so, try via the locast website directly (login and try and view in browser), because the website login/view is the same stream that Channels uses (an App on the other hand, may use a different stream/method of showing the channel).

If, via locast website, you have no issues, then try in Channels again and if still an issue, you'd likely need to submit diagnostics.

You should also update to prerelease, by clicking the dropdown next to Check for Update button.

I updated to prerelease and after the update 6.3 changec to 61.5 and it now works. I did try using Locast via the browser and 12.1 does not work so sent Locast info on the issue. Thanks all for your help.

Locast channel logos for NYC are all missing (except for Channel 13.2 - PBS kids). Running the latest PreRelease.
