Locast login question

Wanting to know if I have Locast setup on my server at home will it mess up if I login to Locast from Chrome from another city it supports? I have SF on home server, but I'm in NY right now

Not sure what you mean, but the DVR uses its own chrome session and nothing you do in Chrome yourself can affect it.

Live in SF and have Locast set up there , in NY currently and want to login to Locast via chrome browser .

Okay but your dvr is still in SF right? So what does that have to do with using Locast in NYC

Yes it is, but just wanted to know if by logging in to Locast would mess up my SF setup if I logged in from here

No it won't

Thanks

You can log in in different places without any issue. My daughter logs in in NY and I log in in MD as long as we don't go over 4 at the same time we are OK.

Over 4 at the same time?

To piggy back on this answer, if that local computer was using a VPN that said they were in, lets say Atlanta, and he was watching his DVR in NY, he would be getting the Atlanta local channels right? Obviously if he was using the Locast app, it would use his NY location data to give him those locals. I ask because Im a few miles outside of a location that is covered by locast so I may use a VPN to so I can get local channels.

Correct Locast uses Geolocation of the device that is accessing the service to determine the market.

Locast uses the broadcast market area, which is usually a little larger than the broadcast towers reach. For instance, in Southern California, Palm Springs is over 90 miles away from Los Angeles, but is still considered the LA market area; when accessing Locast in PS, the LA channels are served.

Now I just need to find an easy VPN to use on this one computer thats hosting my DVR to get locast working. Any suggestions? Im not needing anything fancy and there is no other need for VPN outside of this. I figure its likely more cost effective than buying an HDHomeRun, and I assume these are the only easy ways to get local?

You need to find that information on your own. Using VPNs to circumvent geo-restrictions is unsupported.
