Locast not closing streams?

i started using channels yesterday, and now today i'm getting a message from locast that i have hit the maximum number of streams on my account. i've never seen this before, and i have a message in to locast to research what is going on...but is it possible that channels isn't closing streams correctly after recordings? i recorded a bunch of different shows last night on my locast streams, and now suddenly this morning i'm seeing this for the first time...

Does your DVR show any recordings still happening? If not there is no open connection. On the DVR Log it should show "Closed connection ..." after every recording.

it does not. i am guessing it's a locast issue because frankly they've had plenty, but i figured i would ask here just in case it's possible streams somehow aren't being closed. i'll report back here with what their support says when they get back to me.

I can't find any documentation about stream limits, so its worth finding out from them what the limit is.

it's 4. they have replied to me and are looking into it, that's the most info i've gotten out of them so far though (that the limit is 4).

they're "looking into it" and will "let me know what they find out." meanwhile, for who knows how long i can't use a service that i've already paid for.

i love locast because i can't get the stations OTA (terrain issues), but good god forcing people to pay for a service with this level of dysfunction is borderline theft right now.

my locast account has been flagged for "suspicious activity." this is fun. it has been traced to 3 different IP addresses in california (where i actually am), illinois and NY, all in the past few hours. mind you i haven't used it all morning, because i can't (it won't let me stream anything).

so my next question is: how does channels do their location detect? not saying this is a fault of channels but i'm genuinely curious (because the alternative is that my account was somehow compromised, and my password is a randomly generated string so i find that hard to believe)...

All connections to locast from the DVR would happen directly from your PC running the DVR software. Unless you're running some sort of VPN I don't see how the DVR could connect from any other locations or IPs.

The location detection only happens during initial setup, and does not connect to any locast streams.

that's what i figured, but wanted to ask just in case. i guess my account was somehow compromised, although like i said with a random string password from a generator i'm not sure how.

After reading this. As a fan of LOCAST and not having many issues I decided to see how many I could watch at the same time. Of course I may now get an email saying I am exceeding my limit.

Right now watch 8 streams. 1 from my DVR and 7 from my wife's DVR. And of the 7 two are coming from a remote location. Of course LOCAST would only see 1 IP and 8 streams.

My issue have been a couple channels not coming in correctly with either video or audio issue. Recently a problem with NBC and no video. But these issue have been corrected. But for the most part LOCAST has been working very well with the Channels UI.

it wasn't an e-mail, it was flat out refusing to load any streams. if i went to the website and tried (or the android app), it said "you have reached the maximum number of streams for this account. please stop watching 1 or more other devices and try to hit watch again here."

it seems that the limit of 4 likely isn't enforced much, i'm pretty sure i have recorded more than 4 things at once in the past with my old cloud dvr (won't mention who here since it's a competitor)...more so it was my account being flagged, which is a bigger issue for me personally. just wanted to ask the question here just in case it was something that was an issue with channels not closing the streams, which doesn't seem to be the case.

that being said, based on their support team telling me 4 is the limit, i went ahead and switched most of my locals recordings for NBC, ABC and FOX to use the TVE streams rather than the locast ones, just to be safe.

If that is still recording it would explain why the random IPs are showing up. Any cloud-based DVR uses many different cloud instances which are in different locations and on different IPs.

good call, i hadn't considered that! it is still recording, as i haven't cancelled my plan with them yet.

Hi everyone. Today I had the same problem with Locast that crackers8199 had - the error
"You have reached the maximum number of streams for this account. Please stop watching 1 or more other devices and try to hit watch again here."

It happened when I was watching Locast on my phone and changed the channel after the 1-hour program ended. The error popped up. I didn't have Locast active on any other device. I closed Locast on my phone and tried it on the TV and then the PC, same error. I submitted a help ticket. For a different reason I rebooted my PC. Lo and behold, Locast is working on all platforms!

I don't know if the help desk fixed it and just hasn't emailed me saying so, or if the PC reboot fixed it.

Do you mean that the location detection only happens during the initial "setup" process one time or do you mean that it only happens one time "each time the dvr restarts"?
