Looking for some assistance with Pi Server setup?

Hi all..

New customer to channels and I'm using a HDHomeRun Prime with Verizon Fios. So far, the Channels app is working great with 2 apple TV's and a few IOS devices. Today I'm trying to get the server setup with Rasberry Pi and having some difficulties right out of the gate..

I ordered a brand new RPi 4/2GB which arrived today. Using a 64gb micro sd card, I used the R Pi imager software on my mac and attempted to follow the directions located here:

Right away, I noticed that when I enter the Choose OS>Misc utility images menu, there is no option in the imager for Pi 4 EEPROM boot recovery. The options are Bootloader: SD Card Boot, USB Boot, Network Boot.

I'm assuming that I want the USB boot, after all, that is the goal to boot from the flashed USB drive. So I flashed that to the micro sd card, it gave me an "all clear" message and I thought I'd be good to go to follow along with the rest of the directions.

Upon inserting the micro SD card, then powering on the Pi, I'm only getting the red light.. No flashing green light at all.. Dang! Had hopes that this would be a super quick flash/install and off to the races.

Any ideas on what I did wrong?

Thanks very much in advance,
John.

Hmm, that should have worked. What version of the imager are you using? Are you flashing from a PC or Mac?

Try picking the "SD Card Boot" option under utility images?

Hi! Thanks for quick response.. Rasberry Pi Imager is v1.6.2

Flashing from Macbook Pro with USB C adapter..

I just tried the SD CARD BOOT option, reinserted it into the PI and still only have the steady red light?

Powering on without an SD card gives both green and red lights steady..

If I then plug in the USB3 drive, I'm getting 2 short green flashes, followed by 1/2 second off, then another 2 short green flashes..

Admittedly, this is only my second pi project, so my knowledge of them isn't the best!

I'm guessing you don't have a micro-HDMI to see what's happening on the screen?

Excellent guess! lol.. I wish I had one.. I'm wondering if the SD card is not working properly? Although I'm getting the message on the computer that says it was properly written.

I can try to locate somewhere to get a micro HDMI cord and see what it's saying..

Hold the phone! I just powered it all down, moved the whole setup and connected it to the network.. Now I have a steady green light, and Channels says "You have not completed DVR setup, please go to 1.92.168...yada yada to complete setup".. Perhaps I"m off to the races!

My experience with rpi image writing is they are like children. Half of them listen the first time, the other half you have to tell them 3 times what you want them to do.
