Losing audio on NBC Late Night

Not completely sure how to describe this but on NBC Late Night with Seth Myers and the Tonight Show I'm getting audio dropouts during certain segments. The audio is fine normally like during the into and when Seth is talking. But when he plays a clip, the clip audio almost completely drops out. I can raise the volume way up and can barely hear the clip audio. Then when Seth starts talking, volume is back to normal. I thought this was an AppleTV thing or something with my sound system but I can reproduce this with the web player.

Nothing shows in the logs. I'm running DVR server version 2022.03.10.0231. Also this was recorded from YTTV so maybe this is a TVE issue or a NBC. Playing the same episode with the YTTV AppleTV app the audio sounds fine throughout with no dropout during the segments.

Thanks,
--Chris

Can you play the raw file in VLC or similar without issue? If the error persists there, then the problem is (most likely) with the input/feed, and not something Channels can address.

OTT apps use different sources than the websites' TVE streams. Unfortunately, you cannot use one to assess problems with the other.

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, it does the same thing with VLC. I guess the source feed is messed up. Bummer, I guess I can use the YTTV app for these few shows I record on NBC. Besides the clip audio dropouts, the audience applause is also muted. I'm curious about what in the DD 5.1 stream is being clobbered. Maybe an audio engineer could explain.

Nothing. Streams via TVE/internet are stereo only. 5.1 DD is only in the OTA/cable broadcast. Your OTT app may also have higher quality streams/audio, but they don't stream them via their websites.

Thanks @racameron for helping me understand this a bit better. I forgot about TVE/internet being stereo only.

When did this issue start? I record this nightly without issue although I didn't watch last night yet.

edit...last nights Seth Meyers sounds fine...

The dropouts started many weeks ago. I've been just living with it and just now spoke up.

Last night's episode showed a clip of Pamela and Tommy Lee and it sounded fine, played back through the Kodi ChannelsDVR add-on, on a windows 10 PC, hdmi through tv speakers.

edit...Chris Redd clip fine too.

Bizarro! Must just be me.
