Lost All Cable ... Saved by TVE

Well we lost cable and internet due to a power outage in our area. We did not lose power but our Cable provider in our area has ... I have Verizon 5 G as a fall over for internet this worked flawlessly.

Did not lose any recordings because Channels DVR switched over to my TVE Cable equivalent Channels.

We Still have no Cable or Internet but I can still watch my morning sports talk shows. Thanks to TVE and my Verizon Internet fall over.

I'm curious: how do you set up something like this?

My Asus Router supports making any LanPort as a secondary wan port ... So my Verizon 5g Internet is connected to it. What is does is ping Google on my main wan port which is XFINITY if that fails it switches over to the secondary wan.

Very cool. I might consider something like this in the future.

With everything relying on Internet example doorbells, cameras etc ... it is almost a necessary thing to have Internet fall over,

I just did another Asus router setup for my folks, using AsusWRT-Merlin with several AiMesh nodes and both OpenVPN TUN and TAP servers. Free DDNS as well. Not using dual WAN, but it's a great setup, and probably the best router in the purely consumer space -- especially with Merlin added.

My Setup... Asus Aimesh Systems are the best .. I use 6E as the backhaul not ethernet.

I have always wanted to have an internet failover, especially during the pandemic when family were doing mostly online work and school. But I haven't had an outage for more than 4years, so very difficult to justify the extra expense. Last year Asus updated my router to add failover using a USB tether from my Android phones. It seems to work fine. I have very limited highspeed hotspot data (5gb), and I am not sure how slow it goes after that is used up. So it maybe next to useless.

This is what my Verizon Home internet speeds are like below My Cable is 1200 (overkill) Down/50 UP ...

We hardly have outages as well. I simply plug in my Android phone in the extremally rare event of an outage.
