It seems like there is low quality sound in the channels app. I have tried switching sound modes on the ATV and turning off and on loud sounds. I don’t get this sound quality on my computer. Is there a way to adjust the sound options within the channels app?
What do you mean by “low quality”?
You can try changing your ATV audio settings to Best Available or Dolby Digital.
I tried changing those settings. The sound seems to drop in volume in general, but loud sounds are still loud. Quiet sounds are barley audible. I have to turn the volume on the tv up so much, then when loud sounds play again the sound it way to high.
Okay, then try changing the audio setting to Stereo and see if that helps.
What is your audio setup? Are you using TV speakers? Or a sound system?
Just TV speakers. I tried stereo also.
I am also trying it in comparison with a Charter Spectrum cable box. The sound isn’t as great compared to that either. I am using a HDHOMERUN Prime for my tuner device.
Any other troubleshooting steps I should take?
I assume you’re not having issues in any other apps?
Can you try the free apps InstaTV or VLC to see if they have the same issue when playing from your HDHR.
Still waiting to try to test those apps out. Right now the tv is being used but I was able to try to Airplay the channels app from my iPhone 7 plus to the Apple TV and the sound is better through airplay than the TVOS channels app.
I just tested out the VLC app and it seems to be a little better on there. It almost seems like the bass is lowered on the channels app and the volume for when people are talking is lowered. I adjusted some of the settings on my tv to adjust the volume’s bass and voice loudness and it sounds better but I don’t feel like I should’ve had to do that.
I noticed the sound was a little off too. My output in optical audio to my Sonos soundbar. It seems softer and the voices are slightly muted. I haven’t changed any settings on the tv or the ATV.
