M3U out of Plex?

I have access to a friends HDHomerun that works well in Plex. Is there a way to use Plex a a bridge between the remote HDHR and my local CDVR.

(Before you aak/suggest, we have tried a VPN and having his HDHR exposed to the internet and neither works.)

I don’t know of a way with plex but there is another option if plex can’t do it.

Install an instance of channels dvr on his plex machine( you don’t need an additional dvr subscription, just use your current one) and disable remote access to it in the dvr settings. Install Tailscale on both his machine and your channels dvr machine. You then add his Hdhomerun to channels dvr in his machine and add a custom m3u source to your dvr machine from his cdvr.

You would access the m3u with:

http://tailscale.ip.of.his.machine:8089/devices/ANY/channels.m3u?codec=copy

For guide data leave it blank in the custom m3u source and assign it after the source is created in the sources section.

Sounds like alot to setup but it’s really pretty easy to do.

It was actually pretty easy to do. What an elegant way to solve a problem. Thank you so much!!!
