Mac mini extra storage needed

I have been using Channels on my Mac mini in conjunction with a SiliconDust HDHomeRun Flex Duo tuner to record over the air TV to the hard drive for a couple of years now. My significant other is getting close to using up all of the hard drive space. I recently added an extra TB of storage on an external drive plugged into the USB. How do I get Channels to record to this drive and/find what I already have recorded if I put it on this drive?

Channels DVR will record to the Server directory

Channels DVR will look for its recordings in your Library Database Storage Paths

You can do either of these

Have Channels record to where it is now and add the new disk as an additional Storage Path

• Just add the new disk path as an additional Storage Path
• then move your existing directory structure to that new disk path

Have Channels record to the new disk and make your original recording directory an additional Storage Path

• Disable the Server (Server Enabled checkmark)
• Set the new disk path as the Server directory
• Add your existing recording directory as an additional Storage Path
• Enable the Server (Server Enabled checkmark)

The only warning I can think of is if you have Imported media.
Channels stores the absolute path to that Imported media in its database (Unless they're in the Imports directory alongside where Channels records to).
If you move your Imported media files, you have to reimport them (Unless they're in the Imports directory alongside where Channels records to).

Here's what I wrote from a few years ago:

Adding disk space, rpi

Add a second USB hard drive. Then add the original storage path as an additional path, and change the primary storage location to your new drive; that way all of your old recordings will still be accessible, but your new empty storage will be used for new recordings.

As to the comment above about imported content, just changing the DVR location and using additional storage paths will not affect your imported content.

I cannot get to the library database. I go to “settings” then “general” and the only options I have are “manage navigation” “start up” “live tv” “ display name” and “kids only mode”.

I’ve looked all over in settings and cannot find where it tells the DVR to record. I keep thinking I’m missing something simple but I sure still need help.

It's in the DVR web admin UI you use a browser to get to, not in the client.
The same place you went to after you installed Channels DVR Server to set it up.
