Meaning if you enable the Old rewriter and either update to a new prerelease, or a new Stable version comes out and your DVR updates automatically, that it will disable the Old rewriter selection?
If so, why uncheck a selection we selected?

Yes, it will be disabled again on every restart.
Because we keep running into people who have selected it and then complained about bugs that are fixed in the new rewriter.
We don't have any known issues with the new rewriter, so if people are still using the old one accidentally, we want them on the new one. If people are using the old one on purpose, we want them to talk to us so we can figure out what is going on and fix it.
