Match metadata for sporting event imports

I have NFL and NBA games from non-Channels sources that I would like to display nicely side-by-side with recordings. However, there's no metadata match available after import even if I put it in the appropriate "TV show" folder (NFL Football, NBA Basketball, etc.). It would be nice to be able to tap into Gracenote metadata for a title, date, and description for various sporting events if the files are imported, not recorded. It doesn't seem like TMDB has any sports metadata, and the matching pop-up in the DVR web UI crashes when I open it.

I know I can manually add metadata, but it's a bit tedious to do that for multiple files. Without any manual editing, this is what an imported event looks like (Knicks/Celtics is imported, Nuggets/Thunder is a recording):

You'll probably want something like this

Once Channels get NFO support (if ever), it'll certainly be more useful than ever but gracenote data is all we got ATM and this tool

Thanks for the suggestion. I took a look but TheSportsDB seems like a real mixed bag; some descriptions are good while others are clearly copied/pasted from another site with formatting errors. Still hoping the developers could eventually create a match dialog for this like Movies/TV Shows.

Yeah...thats not gonna happen. The only hope is maybe they'll use TSDB metadata or implement NFO support. Thats the best we got sports metadata-wise. Sports is already tough to get info on anyways it seems...

Well, this is a feature request forum after all. I'll wait for a developer response before I lose all hope :joy:

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take

I think our best hand is to wait for NFO support. That should be coming soon because getting those nfos are much easier than hoping and praying Channels buy another metadata api to use

Maybe you have a better understanding of how Channels accesses the Gracenote API, but my thinking was that the sporting events data is already included in all of the guide data they pay for from Gracenote. I'd hope it wouldn't require another API, but just querying historical listings.

Yeah but I much prefer TSDB's metadata than relying on Gracenote. Sports is their #1 thing so it'll always top Gracenote.

The guide data and the matching programs data are two separate things (and probably licenses), and I'm not sure what we see in the guide exists outside of it for most sports stuff:

Here we see there are no "episodes", thus nothing to match against, unfortunately. Per usual, garbage source data yields garbage results. On the other side, I'm pretty sure it would be a violation of TOS for Channels to archive the guide data to store the metadata from that for other uses. I believe it was once mentioned that is part of the reason we can't get backwards guide even a day.

This makes sense to me, thank you. It's unfortunate that Gracenote is so limited.
