Meaning of channel-id, tvg-id, tvg-chno, tvc-guide-stationed; and cautions for each?

It's heard to do a search for this answer because these terms show up often in other contexts, so if it is out there, my apologies. I'm trying to figure out the difference between each of these terms/labels in an m3u, and mistakes to avoid (such as duplicating them across sources). (This came up for me in trying to trouble shoot my "jump to top of guide" glitch on the Apple TV (this glitch doesn't happen on Android TV for me in limited testing).

Here's what I think I've figured out so far:

  • tvg-chno is the channel number as I want it to appear in Channels. This can be duplicated (I think?) across sources, so long as they are in fact the same channel in each source.
  • tvc-guide-stationid is the Gracenote station ID, for purposes of downloading guide data. These should be the same across sources, for the same channel, if you want your sources to rollover from one to the next when one is in use (I think?)

Are the above two points correct? And I'm not sure of the significance of the other two. Any other things to be cautious about? Thank you.

I could be wrong. But i think its better to not duplicate and use seperate number. Then in CDVR enable stack duplicates.

A long time ago when i was using IPTV i ran across issues of channel stacking and duplicates. Iirc correctly it was me attempting to manually stacking duplicates with same channel number instead of letting cdvr do its own thing.

Thanks Fofer and Jay1987. Do you know if it is the tvc-guide-stationid that allows Channels to do its thing and stack channels, allowing one to roll over to the other?

Settings > sources > manage lineup > plus symbol > all sources > manually select station id. Then those two channels should stack.

The stacking options in the client are “By Channel Number”, and “By Guide Data”. After reading the post from the beta release of this, I’m still not sure I understand what each means. Does one cause a “busy” tuner to roll over to another source, and the other option doesn’t?

These are Client settings if 2 Channels have the same guide data and you Choose stack by guide data only 1 channel will be shown. ChannelsDVR will always try to roll over to another Source if one is busy. Has nothing to do with those settings.

What if the source selected (in the Upper Left corner of the GUIDE) is a Channel Collection(Which may be in fact be duplicating a "Custom Channel" Source?
For instance, When you are trying to make sure a certain source is the one to watch or Record..
Will it still roll to another Source?

I do not use Channel collections maybe someone who does can chime in.
