Memory hog on firestick

It seems that recently on my Firestick 4ks Channels is building up a lot of memory. It seems that perhaps it is not caching correctly and holding on to too much data. I am constantly having to clear data within the Firestick settings for Channels DVR. It was just showing that Channels was utilizing over 2.3GB of memory. After clearing the data it went down to 131mb. When I use Channels again the memory will once again build back up to a point where it no longer works and the Firestick asks me to remove apps.

I guess you're talking about disk space not memory.

Are you watching things at home or remotely? What version of the app?

The app will cache videos while watching. It should clear the cache automatically though. Next time you see the space has increased, submit diagnostics from the app.

Firestick 4K: I use "at home", never remotely.
I have never seen any Firestick app Size, Data, or Cache have anywhere near 2.3 Gig.
I regularly clear cache on all apps, one by one, then Restart Firestick, it's Firestick memory not disk space.
Channels always has some cache to clear, just checked 6.46 MB.
.
I have never seen an app that clears it's own cache automatically, clearing cache is a Firestick topic often discussed on the web, wishing for a way to clear all at once easily.
I NEVER clear "Data", that erases login info, userid / password, on most apps, then you have to reenter that next time you use the app.

I have noticed if the App Crashes the cache is not cleared ... I have seen the cache on channels dvr over 2 gig.

WOW.
I wonder how it manages to use so much.
What device?
My Firestick 4K usually only has about 1.3 GB of 5.28 GB "Available" according to Manage Installed Applications, so nothing on mine could get up to 2 GB of Cache, not enough memory available at all.

The LiveTV buffer lives in the FireTV unit ... unless you use HLS then the buffer is kept on the server. I have 64GB of extra Storage on my FireTV devices. Got a great deal on USB flash drives during Amazon Prime.... and Cyber Monday.

Interesting.
Do you have the Cube? (Never mind, I see "Cube".
I had the USB external storage on my original Fire Gen 2, it has a slot, but not on my 4K sticks, but I did have the USB on a 4K stick at one time using the USB adapter OTG cable thing.
I guess Channels will store it's cache and Live buffer wherever the app is located, USB in your case,
and I "guess" since there is so much space available Channels must do a calculation and keep as much cache as it's calculations say it has available for such a thing.
But I wonder, does Channels release most of it when the app exits, as tmm says??
I've never seen that behavior.

Yes it cleans it up if it EXITS gracefully.
