I noticed Channels seems to be using more memory than usual when no activity is taking place. No recordings, transcoding, nobody watching a show, etc., but my Synology box reports 420MB of memory being consumed by “Channels DVR” (out of 2GB total). I don’t recall this being so large in the past. Any thoughts?
This is normal and nothing to worry about.
Memory usage on Linux is a complicated subject, but the DVR is not actually using that much RAM. Most of it is being used by the OS filesystem cache, and Linux will make it available to other programs if needed.
