Most of movie trailers not playing

My movie trailers are getting downloaded automaticly in MP4 format.

Most of them are not playing from channels dvr app on appletv / ios / macos.

As an example, i have the movie Death of a Unicorn . The movie file name is Death of a Unicorn (2025).mkv and the trailer file name is Death of a Unicorn (2025)-trailer.mp4 .

When i click on the trailer icon in the app it does not start playing.

However, some other trailer are working.

I have included a screenshot of both a working and not working trailer.

Not working

The one that isn't working is AV1.

Apple TV can not play back AV1 in 4K as it can not decode AV1 via hardware. Because of that, it has to use software. It is not fast enough to decode 4K AV1 via its CPU.

Ok. Thank you.
Is there any plan to add trailer integration as seen in other plateform where ChannelsDVR would be able to find movie trailer on its own instead of having to provided downloaded file ?

After validating, the AV1 trailer is the one working. Its the AVC one that is not working.

Very odd. There seems to be an issue in general for playing back file based trailers. I'm looking into it now.

We had this before (and technically still do), but the only real resource for getting trailers is via YouTube. The cat and mouse game of playing back YouTube videos got as bad for Channels as it is for all the other YouTube downloaders out there and we had to disable it. It just wasn't reliable enough.

Thank you

How about linking out to the trailer’s URL in the YouTube app, then? Like a streamlink. Then pressing the back button a couple of times returns the viewer to Channels. This scheme works reliably in other media apps that link to content on YouTube, at least…
