Is there a simple tool to allow moving a recording out of the channels system? Was looking for an easy way to do this. Am very new to channels, so not familiar with all the third party tools that might allow this, from the ANDROID TV side. Would prefer not to have to open up a laptop to do this.
Have the FILE MANAGER PLUS application, but maybe there are some better android tools to do this, that some have maybe automated the process.
There are no files in the Channels app. They're on the computer you installed Channels DVR Server on. That's the whole point.
If you want to do something with the files, use a file manager on that computer. They're just files in directories.
Found the MPG files and just had to share the directory so could see them on the network.
Does the recorded MPG have an embedded audio file channel with subtitles? Have seen other apps that have that built in, but that was a TS file so maybe can't do that with MPG?
Yes, they're all muxed into the container. they're not separate files.
Maddox -- can you recommend a ANDROID third party player that will play the subtitles embedded? Had VLC doing it for old TS files, but it will not work for MPG files on android. It's truly weird and likely a android issue.
The channels app plays subtitles just fine for live and recorded content. Is there a reason you are wanting a third party app rather than the channels app player?
MX Player and Just Video Player will do it. Not sure just why you want to do this outside of the Channels app player though.
Mikebear -- saving stuff and changing names and meta data
RICE -- after some testing am finding the the resulting captured MPG files do not have any SUBTITLE with SUBTRACK and CLOSED CAPTION embedded in the file.
This is unlike the TS files inside NEXTPVR that will put the captured video and closed captions inside the file.
Is there a setting in CHANNELS to activate putting the subtitles into a subtrack, or is that forever separated?
IF they had subtitles available when they were recorded, they do for sure embed inside the .mpg file. Here's one of mine: Click it twice to enlarge and read it.
MB -- I see that. Good note. Does not explain why I can see the CLOSED CAPTION inside CHANNELS, and cannot see them outside in a third party player.
What is your recording source?
Check that recording file with MediaInfo Online to see if it has Closed Captions or SUBTITLES
Closed Captions would appear as Text EIA-608 or Text EIA-708

Chdvr --- thank you for knowing the difference between subtitles and closed captions and embedded. Most of the android players will not play anything embedded as an additional track in the video file. Have not found any android that will play embeded closed captions.
At least VLC on the PC will play closed captions.
Have tried. VLC ANDROID, NOVA PLAYER, and numerous others with no luck. Even KODI will not play an embedded closed caption in a video file.
Do you and know, or know of any expert that knows of a video player for android that will do this ?
At least CHANNELS will play the streaming CLOSED CAPTION as the original file is playing, or after it is captured. Just that the resulting file does not seem to have a subtrack for the saved closed captions. Maybe a separate synced file only for CHANNELS.
Found an older version of VLC 3.5.1 for android that will play MPG files, and will play TS files with embedded closed caption. Still not sure why CHANNELS has the closed caption and VLC does not.
Looks like I was wrong. VLC can play the MPG files created by CHANNELS with closed caption. The timing is messed up, but at least it can play the movie. Funny how CHANNELS does it correct, and almost all other video file players can't do it.
