Moved DVR to new PC and the old recordings won't play

I had my DVR/server set up on an old desktop PC using a USB external drive for storage. It was working great until the PSU died in the PC. I reinstalled the DVR on a laptop and plugged in the USB drive. The recordings are there and show up in file explorer but not in the recording tab on the DVR. The new recordings I’ve made since switching show up in the recordings tab and play back fine. How can I get the DVR to recognize the old recordings so we can watch them on the ATV?

When you reinstalled the DVR, did you set it up fresh by entering your zipcode again? Usually when you select your old recordings drive, it prompts you to restore from backup which restores all your passes, recordings and settings.

If you open http://127.0.0.1:8089 on your computer, does it show any of the old data like your passes and recordings from before the reinstall?

It is still possible to restore from a database backup, but unfortunately there’s no way to combine databases. So you would have to pick between the old database or the new one. How many recordings did you make after the reinstall?

Yes I put my zip code in again and it didn’t prompt me to restore from a back up. I’ll have to try the link tonight when I get home. I’ve only made a few recordings since switching.

To restore from a backup:

  1. Open http://127.0.0.1:8089
  2. Uncheck the DVR checkbox
  3. Open http://127.0.0.1:8089/restore
  4. Navigate to your recordings directory, and select the Database folder
  5. Pick a backup from before the reinstall which lists the correct number of recordings

This will replace your new passes/recordings with the old ones. The files will still exist on your drive but won’t show up in the DVR.

I’ll try that tonight and get back to you. Thank you for you prompt replies. So far I’m really liking the channels DVR and ATV app.

I type in http://127.0.0.1:8089 and it brings up the settings page. Where would back ups be listed? Do they happen automatically or do I have to make them manually?

Never mind, I figured it out and restored to before I switched computers. Everything is good. Thanks!
