Moving to QNAP, couple questions

Hello, I have been using an old MBP as my Channels DVR to family test the service. Now that I got the thumbs up, I am going to move this setup to a QNAP TS-251a. Couple of questions. 1) For folks using a NAS, are you setting up a specific location for your recordings so it doesn’t eat up all your space? 2) Is there a list of steps on how to move your Channels setup so I don’t lose my recordings and passes?

Thanks all for your help, really enjoy this app!!

To migrate, move your DVR folder to the NAS, including everything inside. Then install the DVR on the NAS, and visit http://x:8089/restore to restore your existing recordings and passes.

Thanks that worked perfectly. Anyone have any best practices on setup so the DVR doesn’t eat up all the space on the NAS?

Not really sure what you are looking for. When you create a season pass in the DVR, you can tell it to keep only X episodes and automatically delete old ones.

Yep already have that set, just wanted to see if there were settings on the NAS folks were using to limit the size of the DVR folder. With my test rig I was recording to a 2TB external drive, and we have had Tivo’s for years. In both cases the storage space is dedicated to just the DVR, if you fill it the only impact is you can’t record new content. But with a NAS that space is shared.
Just something new to me, so just making sure there were no best practices I should be aware of.

Hi, I need to migrate all the passes and recordings from a current QNAP to a new QNAP NAS. What is the specific path (folder) for the Channels DVR?

Thanks

The folder is whatever you told the DVR to record to. Move over all your content then use the restore UI to read a backup from the Database folder.

Thanks much. The migration is much simpler and smoother than I anticipated. Again, kudos to both of the developers. Bravo!
