Multiple Recordings- 19 instances of the same program!

It appears impossible to select a reoccurring program listed on the guide with the ability to create a pass to record that program at a specific time on a specific channel.

As an example, I created a pass to record only NEW Recordings, DW News, at 10PM on Channel 15.1. each evening. During the last 24hrs I wound up with 19 physically recordings from EVERY available source and channel, all with the same content. Channels DVR found EVERY instance of that program, and recorded it. Many of the recordings were from TV Anywhere, which means it streamed those programs to record them! This is totally unsat. I do enough streaming without Channels DVR doing it's own unwanted streaming when an OTA channel exists.

Please fix the guide so that we can set up specific recordings on specific channels at specific times. I'm going to have to remove the pass for DW News. There appears to be no way to get just 1 OTA recording of that program each day.

I was previously told that Channels DVR would NOT do this, and that even though multiple recordings were shown to be recorded, that only 1 would be recorded. This is not true. I have the actual 19 duplicate recordings clogging up my NAS. Can this be fixed?

You can edit the pass under Advanced and add a time.

Please submit diagnostics so we can see why multiple recordings occurred

It won't...if the guide data for the program is proper. Each unique program has its own unique ID, if the guide data has unique IDs for duplicate airings, then the DVR will recored all of them.

Please submit diagnostics, as mentioned, but also provide the program this is happening with, so we can see if we can check it manually. Normally, this is not something that happens, as everyone this board can attest to.

Quite a few of my Season Passes are manually restricted to airings from the one OTA channel I want them recorded from. For me, it's been working as advertised.

In looking at that program, it doesn't actually distinguish each airing as unique. Every single airing uses the same ID, the ID of the show (DW News).

We have things in place to handle this, we transform the ID by adding the start time to the end of it, therefore making them unique. But the problem here is, now the DVR sees each airing as Unique, and will record them all. This is where the New tag usually comes in and makes things work out.

The problem is, this program has every single airing set as New. So unfortunately, this show just has garbage data and there's not much a DVR can do to resolve it.

Fortunately, we have advanced rules for passes, and you can do some tricks to manage it. You might want to add a TIME to the rule, so it only records the show at certain times per day.

Again, this is an absolute edge case due to the guide data for this show being bad. Mostly every other show, as you've probably noticed via your other passes, will work as expected.

I just sent my diagnostics. I think the real issue is attempting to set up recording passes using android apps. If I just do it using a web interface, I CAN select the specific channel, thus eliminating the many duplicate recordings. I will do that in the future as a workaround. Yes, this is available in the web admin, but not in the client apps.

I think most people are using Channels DVR from a web interface. That interface DOES have many more advanced options, such as specifying times and specific channels, to prevent duplicate recordings, which is why very few are having this issue. I attempted to do this running Channels DVR using an Android app and I believe that's where the issue lies.

I'll create my passes using a web interface and that will probably be the best solution. I'll also try the Channels DVR app on my Mac and see how that works.

The MAC app has the same issue. I created 1 pass and wound up with 2 passes and hundreds of future scheduled recordings. And, there's no way to edit the pass to add a specific time or channel.

I'll stick to just the web interface for setting up passes.

I'm going to just try this one last time.

The show your'e attempting to record has bad guide data. This is different from all other shows, which record fine, which you'll see in your own recordings.

While it would be nice to have more options for creating passes in the client apps, this has nothing to do with the problem you're experiencing. The problem is because this specific show has bad guide data.
