Multiple Tuner Support

If you have more than one HDHomeRun, try the latest beta and let us know how it works.

  • NEW: All available HDHomeRuns are combined into a single guide.
  • NEW: Click a HDHomeRun on the Settings tab to add/remove it from the guide.
  • NEW: Click and hold HDHomeRun on Settings tab, and select “Change Priority” to re-order HDHomeRuns.

Lots of internal changes were required to make this happen, so please test everything you can.

You mention the guide data. But does it mean that if all 3 of turners are busy in one prime that it will then start to use the second prime?

Same question. as d21mike, will it move to the next available device if all the tuners on the first HDHomeRun are busy.

Also any way to combine listing from both an HDHomeRun Extend with HDHomeRUn Primes? All my OTA channels are available on my Primes. Currently they are stacked, all the prime channels show then the extend channels. Anyway to have both my NBCs combined, ABC, CBS, CW, etc… (I disabled all the extended channels on the extend, so they match 100%).

Yes, ofcourse!

This might be possible… I’d like to hear how many people would like to see this behavior first.

Basically we could combine channels based on the callsign instead of based on the channel numbers.

If you re-order the tuners on the Settings tab, you can make the extend channels show up first.

Thanks. Definitely interested in that. I keep the extend alive for when my cable provider fails me, so having those combined would be wonderful!!! (Specially when the DVR comes out… )

I’m intrigued by this. Would I be able to combine to HDHomeRuns (one with cable and one with OTA broadcast) into one cohesive Channels guide?

I’d like the channels stacked, I have a prime, extend, and the original hdhomerun (though one of the 2 coax terminals broke off). the non-prime units are just getting the clear qam channels from my fios.

Doesn’t look like we’re going to be able to reliably stack channels across cable and ota, since it’s hard to tell which channel numbers are the same.

If you have both models, please visit the “channel lineup” page on the hdhomerun web interface and copy/paste the number/name of your local channels.

Here’s what I have… as you can see, the names and numbers are both different.

702	KTVUD
703	DKNTV
705	KPIXD
707	KGOHD

2.1	KTVU-HD
5.1	KPIX-TV
7.1	KGO-HD
11.1	KNTV-HD

Would you be able to use the Guide data API instead of the Lineup? I noticed as well that the GuideName response in the Lineup is different between my Connect and Prime, but the GuideName and Affiliate are the same across those channels in the http://my.hdhomerun.com/api/guide.php JSON.

Lineup.json

Prime: {"GuideNumber":"2","GuideName":"WBBM","VideoCodec":"MPEG2","AudioCodec":"AC3","URL":"http://10.0.1.3:5004/auto/v2"}

Connect:
{"GuideNumber":"2.1","GuideName":"CBS2-HD","VideoCodec":"MPEG2","AudioCodec":"AC3","HD":1,"URL":"http://10.0.1.4:5004/auto/v2.1"}

Guide.php

Connect:

Yea, using the guide data name might work.

Problem is then that breaks collapsing CONNECT + DUAL together. Since the DUAL would be using Gracenote for guide data, it won’t match SD’s database.

Also if the app ever messes up and combines two channels incorrectly, it’ll lead to a really confusing experience for the user where they try to play one thing but a totally different video starts playing…

Totally understand. That confusing experience happens currently when SD’s guide data maps to the wrong channel.

I haven’t seen the Gracenote guide data responses or next to the SD guide to compare but it seems some sort of algorithm that compares the programs between the two to confirm that it has a correct combo could work as a safety measure.

Latest beta should combine PRIME and CONNECT/EXTEND channels into one entry.

Change your HDHomeRun priorities to select which one is used first when trying to stream a combined channel.

Awesome!

There were some big changes to the Top Shelf in this beta too, so please let us know if you see any problems with it.

so far everything looks good. really like the combined guide.
