My hd homerun is on a different vlan than channels dvr

The HDHR discovery protocol uses UDP and TCP packets on port 65001

Why not just specify the HDHR's IP address in Channels DVR

As stated above, as long as your gateway/firewall allows Channels to access devices on the VLAN with your tuner, your best option is to add your tuner by its IP address.

Port 5353 is for SSDP/mDNS, but that is not how the HDHomeRun tuners broadcast. HDHR tuners use unicast broadcasts on UDP port 65001 (I'm only 90% sure that's the proper port) for discovery. Generally if you want to ensure discovery for unicast across VLANs, you need a broadcast relay running on your gateway/router to get those packets across the boundaries.

(I used to use a small program to do this on my router: ubnt-bcast-relay. It was a bit of a hack, and your best option is to just create firewall rules to ensure that your DVR server can access the tuners on their VLAN and just add them by IP.)

Thanks, ill try that port. I don't like allowing all ports to be open.
