Need help installing Frndly TV for Channels

@bnhf Thanks for making my post look much nicer! You are THE man.

Run the commands in Windows Command Prompt. I think it is called Terminal in the app menu. That may be in Windows 11. 10 may still call it Command Prompt in the menu.

I tried, but it didn't seem to work. Thanks, though.

Were you able to install Git and Python?

Just an observation from another newb here. All this is way too complicated and the walkthroughs are not well written. If I had time, I would certainly figure it all out. But its just too much for the end result gain.

What kind of walkthroughs would you want? Like one for installing docker on Windows or one for running a docker container? Some of these can look overwhelming at first, but once you start using Docker, it really starts to make sense fast.

Git and Python both, install just like any other standard Windows .exe application. Then it's just a matter of copy/paste 4 commands in the command prompt. The walkthrough doesn't need to be very elaborate.

Another alternative for those who are interested:

I honestly don't know. I posted a screen image above.

That's the thing. I'm not certain what "4 commands" you're referring to, or what "command prompt" that they need to be pasted in, or where they even need to be pasted. I've tried pasting the red text in the black boxes that I'm seeing on multiple occasions. I agree with Stuartsb8 that the instructions here are for veterans, not for people who aren't familiar with the technical details. I think that instructions with screenshots would help. But thank you for your efforts.

Right click start button, select search and copy "command prompt" into search. Click Command Prompt. That is where you paste all the commands from here.
The copy/paste commands are under NO DOCKER on that page.

First however, make sure Git and Python is installed by copy/paste these two commands in the command prompt one at a time.
git --version
python --version

If it doesn't show you the version of each app, reinstall the exe from their Windows link, 64bit.

@stuartsb8 @JC_Goodwin I put together some How To Guides if you are still interested in learning about Docker and Command Line.

Wow, @Bobby_Vaughn , this is fantastic! I have most of this stuff running by following instructions step by step and having nice folks help me out when I messed stuff up.
I appreciate your explanations of how things work. Evidently, I have a lot of learning to do.

Good. I'm glad you are trying to get it going. It's worth it in the long run as it opens so many cool doors with Channels DVR. I know a lot of the guides on the internet are full of ads and purposely over complicated. The best part is when you get comfortable with everything and decide to try Linux. Linux offers better performance but takes time to get comfortable with. Windows will work fine for most all your needs until you decide you want more.

@Bobby_Vaughn, excellent work. Thank you. Your guide is very user friendly. I have to commend you on the think-of-it-like comparisons. @Channels2021, I appreciate the instructions. I followed them, and it looks like I do have the required apps installed. All I get now, though, in Command Prompt, is the following message:

"[notice] A new release of pip is available: 25.1.1 -> 25.2
[notice] To update, run: python.exe -m pip install --upgrade pip"

In PowerShell, I see another line under those two:

"Starting server on port 8183"

What is the next step if I only want to get Frndly running in Channels?

Option 2:
Use the Frndly app.

I was just coming to post the following announcement. Thanks.

Hey, guys. Thanks for all the help, but this is resolved. I just downloaded Frndly again, and I saw that, to my utter disbelief, they've added a custom feature. Took them years, but they got around to it. I have to wonder if Roku had something to do with it; I actually requested this on their board a few weeks ago.

I'm curious... what feature?

They've added a feature to the guide called "Custom." It allows users to put their favorite channels at the top. I really don't know why it took years for Frndly to add this convenience, which is standard in so many other live services. Maybe Roku's acquisition played a factor.

I think that nice feature is only available on Apple devices and maybe a browser, not Firestick, Onn.
Can anyone confirm?

Pretty sure it's on the Firestick.
