So my Orbi router was accidentally unplug so when I plugged it back in and tried to use channels DVR on both my Nvidia Shields which are connected via Ethernet to the router it said it could not find channels on my network. I was able to connect to it through selecting away from home but not on my local network. So I went to my Windows 10 computer which is running channels DVR and reset the ethernet connection and channels now was connected on a different IP address listed but when I tried to either one of my two Nvidia Shield connected via Ethernet it said it could not find channels DVR running even though it automatically had the new IP address listed on the screen of my computer running channels DVR and again I can connect to it through the internet via the away from home. I then tried to connect to my network via Wi-Fi on my Shields and not ethernet and it connected to channels DVR no problem but as soon as I try to connect to channels with ethernet is said channels could not be found even though it does have an internet connection because all other apps are working properly on ethernet on my Shields. If I open channels while on Wi-Fi it will connect to channels no problem then I change it to ethernet while channels is already connected on Wi-Fi and channels works just fine now connected on the ethernet but if I close the channels app on my shield and restart it while still on ethernet I get the same error again that it cannot connect to channels and ask if I have the IP address right and again I can connect with Wi-Fi once again no problem it finds it on my network. Does anybody have any idea what is going on? I tried uninstalling Channels DVR on my Nvidia Shields and reinstalling it but get the same problem on ethernet. I also tried restarting both Nvidia Shields both nothing helps. I'm running on the latest pre-release version 2021.02.02.0014

Find the correct IP of your DVR
-
Use that IP from another device and see if the DVR web UI loads (using http://x.x.x.x:8089)
-
Click Connect > At Home and enter the same IP (x.x.x.x) into the app
-
If it doesn't connect, click Settings > Support > Submit Diagnostics
-
Check the IP on the SHIELD or other device and see if its the same format as the DVR IP (x.x.x.y)
So the ip is the same on either wifi or ethernet just the last 2 numbers changed on my Shield and if I use my phone and go and open chrome and put in the ip it opens the settings right up while on my wifi. Again on ethernet on my Nvidia Shield it says it can't find channels when I put in the ip address. Switched to wifi closed channels and opened it up and it connects no problem. I submitted diagnostics.
There may be some setting on your WiFi router which prevents clients from talking to each other. Or you're using guest wifi network.
It's wifi that it connects on and I don't have guest Wi-Fi even turned on. As soon as I try and use ethernet on my Shields it can't find channels. Btw the desktop running Channels DVR is also connected via Ethernet.
Also channels has been working up till today on both Nvidia Shields using Ethernet. I didn't change anything as far as setting on my router. It got accidentally unplugged and I plugged it back in. That's all I did. I even tried unplugging my router again and letting it restart but I still have the exact same problem with both my Nvidia Shield not connecting to channels on ethernet saying it needs to be finished setting it up yet both find channels dvr if the Shields are connected via wifi.
Btw the message I get is it says Channels DVR isn't finished setting up if I start it while on ethernet on my Nvidia Shields and gives me an address to go to which if I go to it on my phone it loads up the settings for Channels as it always has. When I try and put the address in it pops up and says channels dvr server was not found yet it finds it on that same address on wifi because if I switch to wifi it loads Channels dvr on both the Nvidia Shields and in settings of Channels DVR on my Shields it shows that same address that it says it didn't find channels on while connected via Ethernet. It's crazy because it worked fine up until the Netgear Orbi was accidentally unplugged. Now it will only connect via wifi to the same Netgear router with nothing else changed besides plugging it back in. Ethernet and wifi are both connecting though the same router yet Channels says it's not finished setup error on ethernet only error won't go away.
Silly question. Did you set up your Orbi to be an access point, or is it still in router mode?
Yeah it's in router mode. I didn't change anything. The router was as I said accidentally unplugged so I plugged it back in. That was all and now neither one of my Nvidia Shields will connect to the Channels DVR server on ethernet even though they have full network and ethernet access. Plex even works fine still on ethernet on the Shields but channels dvr won't find it running on the network if I connect to my network via ethernet on the Shields and it's on the same computer running Channels DVR Only if I use wifi on my Nvidia Shields connecting to the same router as the ethernet is connecting though will it find Channels. It's really crazy.
So I just tried again to get channels to work while connecting with ethernet on my 2 Nvidia Shields. I closed the app and connected again to ethernet like I tried many times before and started up Channels DVR on my Shield and it loaded no problem. I didn't change anything! I haven't even restarted anything at all! The only thing I did was to try to switch from wifi connection to ethernet on my Shield like I'd tried 50 times now today with no luck at it's working. So I then went to the other Nvidia Shield in the house and did the same thing and bam it is now working also! So crazy but whatever. As long as it's working I'm good. Here's hoping the router never ever gets turned off again.
So after it started working for a day or so on ethernet it suddenly stopped working again and can only connect to channels on wifi not ethernet. I tried what you suggested going to another device and typing in the web address and it won't load. Do you still need me to submit diagnostics?
If you haven't done so, I recommend setting your router to have Reserved DHCP IP addresses for your Channels DVR Server PC and your Nvidia Shields, so they don't change IP address.
But that doesn't explain why it only finds channels when the Nvidia Shields are using wifi. The channels server is still on the same ip it has been for weeks yet the Nvidia Shield suddenly can't see it on ethernet and puts up your DVR is not quite set up yet and go to this URL in your browser to complete it yet I click Turn off ethernet on my shield and it connects to the Wi-Fi to the exact same router and it starts right up with no error. Weirder yet while this did this the other day for the first time today being the second time I just switch to Wi-Fi for the day and then I tried to switch back to ethernet like 4 hours later in the same day and it connected to channels no problem on both Nvidia Shields for the last 2 days. Then with nothing being changed I was watching a show and it gave an error saying it couldn't play. I closed Channels and opened it and got the same error again about needing to finish setting up channels again with nothing being changed at all not a restart of anything.
