Hi all,
I have just setup Channels DVR on a QNAP NAS box. The source is a HDHomeRun Quatro tuner connected to an antenna. Everything appears to work well except for recordings. All of my recordings give a "Recording was interrupted" warning, and when I attempt to play them, it says "Connection Lost (-17)".
I have run the "General Troubleshooting" tool in Channels DVR and I get a green checkmark for everything except for Disk IO - is says it cannot write to /share/channels-data/Streaming.
The QNAP is a private QNAP - it is not online, it is currently only running Channels DVR. It is running the latest firmware.
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
I no nothing about QNAP's OS but it sounds to me like Channels doe not have write permissions.
What I get in the logs on my TrueNAS setup when I run troubleshooting:
2023/11/29 06:59:54.340310 [TRS] Recording Directory: OK
2023/11/29 06:59:54.341096 [TRS] Disk Permissions: OK
Thanks Terry. Strangely when I run the "General Troubleshooting" without enabling the resource intensive tests, I get the same results as you. Both recording directory and disk permissions are fine.
If I enable the resource intensive tests, I get the Disk IO error.
Resource intensive on mine:
2023/11/29 10:06:58.842993 [TRS] Disk IO: OK: Write: 607.6MB/s Read: 2.6GB/s
The cannot write is what leads me to suspect permissions, again I'm not familiar with QNAP OS but permissions is where I would start looking.
I have checked - the permission on /share/channels-data is 777. However, the check says it is trying to write to /share/channels-data/Streaming. This directory does not exist (it appears that Channels DVR attempts to write recordings to /share/channels-data/TV).
So, I added the Streaming directory and reran the troubleshooter. Now I get "Benchmark failed to run".
I do not suspect a permissions issue. After a couple of forum searches, the "Connection Lost" errors appears to mean that the tuner couldn't tune the channel. Again, this is strange - the channel tunes in just fine when live, plus, these are on channels that never have tuning issues.
I found the server logs and found the following message "no space left on device" when starting a recording.
For some reason, the disk space (terrabytes) is not available to Channels DVR. Something in QNAP to figure out.
Im not an expert but on my qnap TS 264 I have mine in the public share and it works for me
I created the dvr/recordings folder using file station
IN CHANNELS under general/ basic setup
Storage Paths
/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Public/dvr/recordings
Thanks all. This turned out to be the problem. /share/channels-dvr was not setup to be a directory that is allowed to grow in size. I moved it to /share/Multimedia/channels-dvr and all was good. I can now record shows, plus the Disk IO troubleshooting check passes.
