New customer questions

I just stumpled across this.

This is pretty neat! I'm a plex user, and well their DVR sucks b***s! So depending on the enhancements and features in Channels DVR, this may be my go to for all my media.

I may just leave Plex up for my shared users only, and use this for home use.

Looking forward to diving into this today!

Yet another question. I know you can add your movies, but can you add your TV shows too?

Damn, I ended up adding my tv shows and it doesn't work. Now I have a ton of TV shows with missing album art. How can I remove this without actually deleting the files?

Remove the directory with the TV shows from the Local Content section in the DVR web UI, then under the Maintenance drop-down, select Prune Deleted.

I've re-added it. I will let it scan all content, then remove the directory and run a prune deleted.

I will let you know.

That seemed to do it.

You should probably keep running Plex for your own local media (non-DVR), for now.

The media import functionality of Channels is still pre-alpha. Very early in development.

Welcome to the otherside Niter3
Likewise I just use Plex for my shared users now and use Kodi for home use instead of Plex as I got fed up of being locked out of Plex and my media catalogue everytime their Plex.tv backend failed. I've not yet tried the import media but its on my to do list this week. Channels DVR is my go to DVR it hasn't failed me yet and support is really good.

Plex user here as well. My family has grown accustomed to the interface of Plex so I just copy my recordings over to the directory with a script. Haven’t gotten mcebuddy working on just yet to do automated commercial removal. I found that to be pretty spotty.

I use Emby to serve the Channels recordings ... I need to be able to keep track of what I watch ... you cannot currently in channels unless you are the only user. KODI with EMBY KODI plugin works great even comskip works.

Plus Channels playback on my New FireTV Cube is awful.

I actually use channels in conjunction with my plex server. I record my shows, then point my plex server's TV subsection to the channels folder.

The issues I have with this, is if you delete your recordings from Plex Channels will stil lthink it's there and won't clear.

You also miss all the commerical skipping functions which is nice to have.

Would you be willing to to tell how to do this? For a newbie this is like Greek!!

If you do not have an EMBY server there is no way to do this.

I realize that, but what is the point? Why bring KODI into the mix? Why move anything at all? Maybe I wasn't asking the right questions.

I do not move anything but to answer your question I do this because there is a problem where channels DVR on the FireTV Cube with Echo Studios drops frames ... also Channels DVR does not have individual household users. I bring KODI into the mix because EMBY does not support EDL comskipping.

So the EMBY server just accesses the files where they were? Seems complicated. Sorry to have bothered you.

No bother at all ... it seems complicated at first but all you need is to set it up once.
