Strange, there was no activity at 6pm and nothing happened til 6:24pm.

It’s almost as if the Mac went to sleep?

I have about 7 recordings today with a lot of overlap during prime time. I’ll let you know tomorrow if I run into any issues.

Everything worked as expected. Ran 2 concurrent playbacks on wifi AppleTVs, didn’t see anything abnormal.

I am happy to report I had no issues. I recorded about 7 shows. Three had overlaps. I watched recorded TV on AppleTV and mobile iOS and Mobile Web no issues.

The nature of the change is with transcoding. So try to do some remote streaming or clock down your quality settings locally to have transcoding kick in to test this beta version.

Did some more watching of recorded shows on local network with iOS client. Had transcoder at 480/1mbps and had no issues. Live tv was also recording at the same time.

It works fine for me, no issues starting/stopping. Captions are a little messed up on software transcoding and don’t show up at all on hardware transcoding (on hw they used to show up but all tangled). CPU usage seems to be a little better, around 23% on software and 13% on hardware on my i7.

No problems viewing 720p outside home WiFi in coffee house with looks like 50 devices going. Almost as fast as ‘inside’.

Just tried to watch a show on Win10 web. All live shows seemed to work except 29.1.

i forgot to mention I could hear audio

The same show worked on my iPhone running remote.

I submitted logs to support

For what it’s worth I have tested this version to the best of my ability (as well as version 2018.03.16.2349) on a Synology DS916+ running the latest DSM (6.1.5-15254 Update 1) and have not encountered any issues with the tvOS, iOS, or web clients.

A post was split to a new topic: Crash trying to watch recording

May have found one. Not seeing closed captions on shows transcoded. There are definitely there in their “original” quality. But when I select a different quality option in settings I loss CC.

Closed captions have never worked when using hardware transcoding. This may change in the future now that we have updated the transcoder code.

Thanks Haven’t noticed that before…

Thanks to everyone who helped test this update!

We’ve released the new transcoder to everyone in v2018.03.21.2139

In your initial post you stated that “you shouldn’t be able to notice any difference“.

Over the last week (since above public release) I’ve had more opportunities to use the Web UI for viewing files requiring transcoding (although I hadn’t really been using the last 3-5 months), as most channels are now H.264 (remux) for me.

It seems to me that transcoding for older files in mpeg2 is substantially improved…My Qnap struggled with these same files last year, many times <1.0 rate. Now I haven’t seen rate <1.0.

Your opinion?

The Intel transcoder was updates so improvements are not unexpected. We also added hardware deinterlacing option a few months ago which helps with Intel transcoding rates.
