NEW: FireTV app for Channels DVR (experimental)

I am working on a FireTV version of the app if anyone is interesting in trying it. Please post what kind of FireTV device you have, and if what your experiences with other HDHR software (VIEW, InstaTV, Kodi, etc) have been.

It seems the mpeg2 decoder on the FireTV cannot handle interlaced channels at all, so the FireTV version of the app will require the DVR server to deinterlace and transcode content (like the Roku app).

To receive the FireTV test app, please go to https://www.amazon.com/gp/cpc/homepage?ref=gss_to_cpc, click on Promotional Emails and make sure “Amazon Appstore” is checked. Otherwise you won’t be able to receive the beta invite. Then post below asking for an invite.

Once I invite you, you will receive an email with the subject “Amazon Appstore Live App Testing Invitation” that looks like this: https://developer.amazon.com/public/resources/development-tools/live-app-testing/docs/getting-started-with-live-app-testing#steps-for-app-testers

I’m interested.

I’d be happy to test the Fire TV version.
I have Fire TV v1 with latest software updates 5.2.4.1
I am using InstaTV and Kodi (side loaded) without any issues.

I’ll test:

Amazon Fire Stick V1

Done.
Please send invite.
Thanks!

I was able to download the Channels app on Amazon Fire TV mostly without issue (app would not load without Fire TV restart).
Here are a few issues:
Up Next does not show correctly, actually showing recorded shows, which will play.
Movies does not list anything.
Only a few channels will actually play, which I believe are the strongest signal ( Fox, CBS).
Channels selected will sporadically load OSD.

Guide, remote functions all seem to work well.

Fire Stick V1

Channels loaded, using 5GHz
Playback & Live video is very jerky on both 1080i and 720p
Originally had display set at 1080p 60hz, changed to Auto…no change

HDHR app: playback & live is acceptable (within limitations of V1)

Can you try changing DVR transcoder’s deinterlacer to Blend

On Blend for tests

Will try a different DVR

Qnap & Shield are much better for live than MacMini. Still somewhat jerky.

Playback is better but not much.

How can I update the uploaded v1.0.17 on a Fire TV?

I will upload it to Amazon, but there were no changes which would affect the FireTV

Uploaded 1.0.19 to Fire TV, even though notes indicate that no changes were included for Fire TV?

Results: No difference from earlier version. Playback is still jerky on both Live and Recordings.

FYI, the only way I was able to update was to delete the .15 version on Fire TV directly.
Then loaded .19 version from Amazon store using a web browser (deliver to Fire TV)

Please send and invitation

It’s a link in the first post.

The link to the FireTV app has to be sent manually. I sent both those earlier.

I got mine. Works great.

Please send invite. I originally got the app from the Appstore before it was pulled so not getting updates.
