New user app query

I am a new user and logging it! UK, hdhomerun Quattro, synology ds218+ dedicated to channels, numerous Apple TV and use on iOS. Love it. Simply amazing and very polished. Now disconnected antenna from tvs and using channels for all live and recorded.

Apologies if this is a faq. I have looked everywhere and can not find any details on how to use the remote for some of the additional functions it supports. Specifically using things like skip back and forward, skip commercials etc. My Apple TVs are mix of 4K and 4.

Thanks in advance for any poInters.

Good question. Go here: https://getchannels.com/tv/ and scroll down to the section titled “How do I use Channels?”

Thanks for the reply. I knew it would be somewhere that tuned out to be obvious once I knew! I appreciate the pointer. I love Channels and on tvOS it is really very good - way exceeding what I expected. I have been using various software DVR solutions over the last 15+ years (ShowShifter, GBPVR, NextPVR, Plex and a few proprietary DVB solutions along with Sky+HD and BTTV) yet none ever gave me everything I wanted and more. Channels is simply superb.

Install and setup process was a breeze. Delighted with it on Synology. One thing that did happen was the folder created during install is not showing as a Shared Folder in Synology so I cannot integrate into backup. I guess an uninstall, folder move and reinstall should sort that from what I have read on forums.

One feature I would love to see is the single home screen type thing Apple use. If the app could synchronize all settings, layout etc. between tvOS and iOS instances it would be very welcome - not that manually configuring is a trouble but just nice to have changes appear on other devices (I have 6 Apple TV and 4 iOS) would be handy.

Thanks again for the help.

You are very welcome. Glad to hear you’re happy with Channels and also that you have it running on Synology. I was the first Synnology user; the guys used my Rackstation to make the package. Today, however, I run on a Mac Mini,

I agree with you about centralized configuration as we have 12+ devices in use. However, I think we still need the option to customize at the device level to suit individual preferences.

Overall we’ve been using Channels for going on 2 years and it is fantastic! So much so that we’ve actually accepted the somewhat lower quality and slightly rocky experience of the HDHR Premium TV because of the integrated experience with Channels. I have confidence that the experience of Premium will continue to improve over time as well.

Welcome to Channels! Easily the best and most cost effective (some argue other wise, but I disagree) TV solution!
