Newbie can't get Channels to connect to Homerun USB drive

After dozen years, tired of $200 a month for UVerse. Just installed today a HDHomerun Flex 2-tuner and a Seagate 2T hard drive plugged into it. I assume the HD is recognized and formatted because I see a 1999GB drive on the DVR Status page on HDHR.

I subscribed and installed Channels DVR to my Win 10 laptop. First thing to do is add storage location for recordings. ONLY choices are the hard drives on my laptop, and I see a Network Share choice, whatever that is.

I did a test record and it was on my laptop drive. No good. Help!

Plug the HD into your computer running the channels server. Select that as you storage option.

Channels DVR Server cannot use the hard drive plugged into your HDHomeRun. Only their service can.

You have to plug it into the computer that’s running Channels DVR Server.

May want to give the documentation a read on how to get setup with Channels DVR.
Unless you plan to leave the laptop you are using on all the time, it is not a great server device.
Channels Support - Quick Start Guide

I think the Win10 laptop will be a good Channels server while testing to insure you will be satisfied. You should probably install as a service and change the laptop power settings to never go to sleep. If Channels works out for you and you can eliminate some of your cable TV expenses, then you may want to improve you server hardware.
