The cable news channel Newsy now has a TVE stream on their homepage. This is the link to the .m3u file I have been using.

I have been running Newsy as a custom channel for a few days now. Be aware that there are issues with their audio levels during some news stories and the "commercial" breaks.
I have never added a custom channel before.
I thought i was doing it correct. I guess not because it finds 0 channels.
Am i supposed to copy and paste that link into custom channels? or is there more to it. Sorry. This will be my first custom channel.

not sure where I am going wrong. I have tried it as a text (open file copy and paste). I have tried it as file as well (linking to url). Not sure if I should be on HLS or MPEF-TS. So I tried both. I read the the page you linked. Not sure where I am going wrong. As I said, first attempt at adding a custom station.
It should be HLS. And you need to include the #EXTM3U and #EXTINF lines, as well as ensure you have a channel-id tag specified in your #EXTINF line; are those 3 conditions met?
Perhaps share the M3U playlist you are trying to have Channels use.
I created a file called custom.m3u8 on my Channels DVR volume. I have the following detail in the file:

I previously tried doing text version or link. Ill download file, try that way.
As far as newsy, it's not that I want the station. I've just never done a custom channel (hdhr, philo, locast, and a friends dish login are my current usages) and I thought this would be a easy first attempt.

TextEdit works for this. But you don't even need to make a custom file, you can instead just paste the text into the field too, after choosing "Source: Text:"
There are also lots of other ways to get Newsy into Channels DVR now, by way of Custom Channels from Pluto, Stirr, Samsung TV+, Plex TV, Tubi TV, Vizio, etc. This community forum has lots of threads about those methods, search should lead you there.
I used TextEdit to create the file. Any text editor should work.
I use my custom.m3u8 to configure multiple channels, not just Newsy.
